  • Difference between 54 and 55 coupe/hardtop tail light housings?

How can I tell the difference between 54 and 55 coupe/hardtop tail light housings by looking at them?

    Thanks

The '54 is taller to accommodate the Narrow bumper, the '55 got the New taller bumper and shorter Tail Lights.

The '55 Lens is Wider and more wrapped around.

I see it now. Thanks. Is the only difference between 55 and 56 is that 56 has a little notch for the fin?

Jeff, if You look at the side views on both You'll notice the 55s are more narrow at the bottom where the bottom of the Lens meets it.

Yes, but I believe the notch is Golden Hawk only.

The '55 Lens is curved, the '56 is Flat and protrudes out with a square Grid pattern grooving cut into it at the Top and curved at the bottom, they are interchangeable but way different.

The '55's, '56 Flight, Power and Sky Hawks have no Fin notch in the Housing, only the '56 Golden Hawk has a cutout.

I believe that 1955 and 1956 are the same, except for the Golden Hawk (the only 1956 with a fin).

EDIT: We are only talking housings here, not lenses.

I am familiar with the lens difference. So, to confirm, the 55 and 56 coupe/hardtop housings are the same except for the Golden Hawk housing, correct?

                  That is correct.

Have You actually measured 54 n 55 housings to determine one shorter than the other? I don't see any real difference in the pics, a bigger bumper in it's self may not really matter. it might just have a bigger arch to go around and not under the housing.
