  • Studebaker name is resurrected in Canada

Thanks to the careful planning of a widely traveled and highly creative couple, Anand and Naomi, a brand new restaurant simply named "studebaker" has just opened in Burlington Ontario, a neighboring suburb of Hamilton.

The official opening is scheduled for February 15th but we had the pleasure of sampling their wares last evening. "studebaker" is located at 2535 Appleby Line in Burlington in the commercial/retail corridor at the southeast corner of Appleby Line and Dundas Street (Highway 5).

While the restaurant design is not based directly on a Studebaker car theme, Anand and Naomi are long time Studebaker buffs and Naomi has always said that if they ever were able to realize their dream of opening a restaurant, it would be called "studebaker". Their plan is to definitely acquire a Hamilton-built Studebaker as part of the project.

"studebaker" is a modern-day upscale diner where everyone can feel comfortable and relaxed. Their menu draws from regional classic dishes, including the "studebaker" burger and a griddled lobster roll, We had both last evening and they were excellent.

The web site can be found at www.studebakerburlington.com and they can also be found on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Shoot! Just went thru that intersection on Saturday! It's only a couple of miles from my daughter and new grandson, so will be partaking of some Studebaker repast very soon!

      Thanks for the heads-up, Stu!

They are certainly long gone in Canada. Haven't heard if any still remain in the U.S.

There was a chain called Studeburgers with one on Plains Rd in Burlington in the 70's, then nothing like it until Bob Easton found this new one at the opposite end of Burlington on Appleby Line.

If i am not mistaken, the building that used to house the Studebaker's restaurant was once a Studebaker dealership in 1964 through 1966 and operated by Larry Gains.

Just returned home from a pleasant evening at the grand opening of "studebaker" in Burlington Ontario. Excellent food and drinks plus enjoyable company. Was pleased to see fellow members Steve and Kathy Porter there. If you are in the neighborhood do pay them a visit.
