  • Excellent Studebaker Day

I drove Doug Hadley's '54 Commander Starliner 85 miles round trip to the Karel Staple Chapter monthly meeting yesterday. With my friend Mel's '57 Packard Clipper in my rear view mirror and classic rock & roll playing on the AM radio it was definitely a great throwback in time. I got a number of waves and thumbs ups along the way and the car was well received by chapter members with folks taking turns having a seat behind the wheel. Prior to heading out I had finished my portion of the work on the car, installing the last few trim pieces and polishing the chrome on the dash. I drove it over to Doug's house on Saturday so he could take a look. His wife Julie saw and took it for a drive around the block. When she came back she said "We should keep this one!" So maybe it won't be for sale after all, LOL. I continue to be impressed by how comfortable it is and how well it drives. It is heading back to the body shop today to take care of hood alignment, a few nicks in the paint and some over spray in the wheel wells. Here are a couple pictures of it in it's more complete condition.

Regarding the paint colors, the build sheet shows it was originally the solid yellow color. Doug is trying to trace it back to find out when the red roof was applied and whether it was a special order, if the dealer applied it or if it was done by a previous owner.

    Pat,
I talked to Doug on the phone and told him I would email him some info, but the email address I wrote down for him didn't work. Can you contact me with his email address?

    Thanks.

Nice car. I would like to see it with wide white wall tires. The contrast between the black wall and the yellow rim is rather harsh. Of course, it may be just the lighting in the picture.

            1952 Commander 2 door. Really fine 259.

Thanks, Yes, we agree on the white walls. Have had several comments/suggestions on that. They would really set it off.
