  • I want a Packard Hawk with a Packard V8 for Christmas

The recent BAT auction of that very nice '58 PH got me wanting one again. I didn't bid because it wasn't an overdrive car; that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

But then, any real Packard Hawk should have come with the 374" Caribbean 2x4 310hp and overdrive as an option. That one, I'd bid on.

Jack. Just build it. A one of one factory experimental. Most rare of all the Packard Hawks.

I've owned six of these and a close approximation of the other two.

Should I tell you that the ‘56 Golden Hawk built and owned by the Northwest legend Dan Kilcup is currently for sale on Portland Craigslist?

                    Jack,

If you want one that bad, we should probably talk. You'll have to settle for a stock 289, no overdrive and the supercharger is blown all to hell.

For me, I want a 66 Commander 2dr sedan Superlark. It would have a 66 350HP327 with a 4 speed, HD TT Dana 44 with rear traction bars and rear sway bar, HD shocks and springs, bucket seats, 8 grand R3 style tach and a 160 MPH speedometer. On the front fender is an oval "Avanti Powered" emblem. In 66 Avanti Motor Corp was already building cars using 327's and 4 speeds. The remaining components are from the parts bins. Studebaker could have/should have built this.

While our own Jim Pepper is not as well-known as the late Bill Jenkins, some say he's almost as good with an L79. Grumpy's Toy ran an 11.66 in C Stock in 1966-'67; a '66 Commander 2dr sedan would be easily as quick with the same combination.

Jim ever think of a 383 in a lark that would be fun. When I get the 350 installed in the 62 hawk i have in the works it's going to get a McKinnon 350 cu in sticker on the air cleaner just as a joke

My SBC friends say the 383" is the cheap seats; if one wants to go really fast, a 406" is the minimum ticket price and a 427" with the aftermarket block is for the guys with bucks. The fun part is they can all be disguised as a 283"
