View Full Version : Seller's remorse

I was cleaning up on Saturday (actually organizing so no one would think I was throwing things away :D) and came across the 1975-76 SDC roster. Inside was a TW ad that I had written for a '63 Daytona that I owned. Until I saw the ad I had forgotten how well equiped it was, 289, AT, PDB, PS, vanity, AM radio, etc. I had it priced at $200 (got no takers) and eventually sold it locally for $60. I had bought it for $29 and it was running at the time of sale.

A local club member purchased it and parted it out [xx(]. Wish I had it back now.

Yes, those were the "good old days." I guess that we didn't realize how good we had it then and expected those prices to remain. It reminds me of a 1963 Cruiser with 27K miles that I bought from the original owner for $100 in the early '70s. I put a set of tires on it and did some other things. It was like a new car. I only kept it a couple of months and sold it for $200 including delivery. I sold it quick because I couldn't stand that Rose Mist color (like the expensive '63 Cruiser now on eBay).

Do you guys forsee Stude prices going up to "Barret-Jackson" type levels in the future? I know I missed out on sub-$1K Studes, but I'm hoping to be able to buy one before the prices shoot thru the roof. I'm remembering the really nice 54 a neighbor had, that I just couldn't come up with the $ for at the time, that now would sell for 10X what he was asking for it...

Daan,

I don't think prices will rival B-J prices except for some of the rarest and most sought after models. Even then, I doubt they'll give the "Muscle Cars" a run for the money.

I bought a cream puff of a Commander hardtop for $300 in '76 or so. 29 K miles on it and a little ol' lady car at that! When I found another Stude to lust after, I sold the 58 for the $300 I had in it.
Here it is 30 years later and I'm still finding loacal Studes for under a thousand bucks. And not just junk either.

Miscreant adrift in
the BerStuda Triangle!!

I can tell you as a NADA advisor, it's hard to keep up with the values. i.e. the $11,600 I just sold a condition 4 53 Starliner is about 4K over my old estimate. When Ed Elllis sold his truck for 50K at Kruse and may get 35-45K for his 53 hardtop it's a sign we are headed up for the right cars and trucks.

So I may be able to afford a Stude in the next couple years without having to sell a kidney, huh?

No remorse here. I bought my 63 R2 SuperLark in 1978 for $500 and still have it. Even if the original color is Rose Mist :)

My 66 Commander I got from my aunt, who bought it new, had 33k on it when I got it. The interior was like new. Everything worked right down to the ciggarett lighter.
We parted her out cause the fenders were rusty.
This was in the 70's.
