  • Volunteer Fire Company's Sacrificial Champion Convertible

When they are too far gone for even the most dedicated Studefile, they can still serve mankind.
The Boalsburg Volunteer Fire Co in Boalsburg, PA is about to undertake some training exercises.
It's a shame to lose the grill and single stainless gravel guard, but there is little of value left. Someone left this cake out in the rain just a little bit too long.

That IS REALLY too Bad. A 4 Door Yes, a Convertible NEVER!

This Car has many very RARE Door and Quarter Window and associated Hardware Parts to destroy and scrap.
Not to even mention the; Tail Light Housings, Headlight Rims, Bumpers, Grille, any Dash Details and the Stone guard.

Anyway a Convertible is a terrible choice to try and rescue someone from, because it is too seldom going to happen, PLUS it is TOO EASY to not have to cut the roof off or anything to do a Rescue.

If the Training is to simply put out a Fire, a Pile of Gas soaked Wood would do fine.

They would get a lot more training relative to common accidents happening at this time by utilizing a car from the last decade.
I do not see where this six decade old car will represent what they will come upon now.

I had a friend that bought a convertible, in worse shape than this one, just to get the top mechanism for another convertible that he was restoring.
Besides the top mechanism, it looks like both bumpers, all of the glass & surrounds (except for the windshield), the dash, the hood ornament, the taillights, etc. are usable on this car.

They should forget a rescue drill on a seventy year old car. Not much on that car to learn about when coming in contact with a late model car. They should drill on Toyota Prius with those batteries and air bags to deal with.

I agree. What's the point of this exercise, anyway?

I know someone that needs that stainless (?) header piece above the windshield. That car also has a perfect looking grille!

I agree. That car has many good parts to salvage, and it looks better than many of the Studebakers I see in the junk yard.

Go buy a 10-15 year old junk anything, offer to swap it for the Studebaker, take it home and part it out.

I agree that training should be carried out on a more modern car since they are comprised of many plastic/vinyl/rubber components which significantly change the dynamics of a fire.

If anyone's up for it, call the Fire Company and see if they'd be interested. (814) 466-7367

This is great idea for someone that is close enough for this to be practical (like within 50 miles).
