Color for 55 valve covers and air cleaner

Anyone have a rattle can paint that is a fair match for the gold color on 55 v8 valve covers and air cleaners?

That should be a REALLY easy one, any Real Gold Color Hardware Store household Spray Paint should be plenty close enough, maybe Rustoleum.

Almost as easy as matching Black!

I have never seen that Color in Duplicolor Engine Enamel, but how much better/long lasting would a Custom mixed Automotive Enamel spray can be, is questionable.

Anytime I used gold or silver spray paint, it doesn't matter how old it is, any gas or oil seems to remove it. I'm sure there is good automotive grade paints where this is no problem, but when using ordinary spray cans, I'd probably want to cover the gold with a can of gloss clear.

In New Car Automotive Factory match Paint colors yes there are Metallics and tints of Black, but we are not talking about that, just ordinary spray paint, Black still IS Black!

I don't know how correct of a match they are, but for minimum investment (around $6.00- $10.00), could try either Duplicolor or VHT universal gold engine paint. Could do a test spray to compare to an existing gold part. Should be able to find at local (well stocked) auto parts store.

I've used Seymour brand engine spray paint I like. Eastwood used to sell this brand. Sprayed well, covered easy and has held up well on AMC motor I did. Here's an Oldsmobile Gold: https://www.opgi.com/cutlass/C220129/

There's just no substitute for catalyzed paint be it single stage enamel, urethane etc... if you want durability.

My engine color is the same as Dick's, or very close. I used PPG Delstar enamel, Cadillac Astec gold.

Very true, rattle cans will not measure up to high end Automotive Paints. and I for One am still trying to figure out what "Household" Paint means exactly
