Apparently the Carter 9500 AFB on the Champ doesn't like 6552 rods. With 083 jets, it would start right up and die over and over again. With 086 jets, it would die or almost die right off idle. 6852 rods are now having it run as good as it ever has. My best guess is that the Carter factory made a bum pair of rods that got into the nix. Any old pros have better ideas?

You can compare the rods side by side to determine where the "steps" are, and then mic' them for diameter?

Update. The Champ has mostly ran better the little bit it has ran. But it was temporarily very week off idle at a stop sign on the way home from the grocery store. Thank God for granny gear.... It got better since then. Crap going through the system? Choke needs some readjustment?

Update: I miked an offending rod. It's right near spec.
