  • 64 Studebaker GT Hawk with R1, 4sp, posi rear, AC

This is a rare car from everything I have been told.
It is a 1964 GT Hawk with the 289 R1 motor that has a fresh rebuild, factory 4 speed on the floor also rebuilt, posi rearend rebuilt, Factory gauge pack with tach and clock, 160 mph speedometer, AC, PS, Power disc brakes We got this as is and ran out of time and money to fix it. It is 99 to 100% complete and only needs put back together to be a runner. The serial # is 64V-12909
    The body tag is 64V K6 1163.

          Hi Rick,

Does the car still retain the original R1 engine? It does not look like it has the special R-Series breather tube on the right side coming up from the side of the oil pan. What is the engine number (located on the front top of the engine just in front of the valley cover, on the driver's side)?

We would like to get 12k, but willing to consider reasonable offers. It also comes with 2 sets of interior both in good shape, a set of buckets and back seat from the 64 with headliner and door panels, and a set from a 63 in wine color, it has 2 sets of glass. It also comes with extra fenders, chrome, and other parts. It has had some rust repair before we got it and looks like they did a fairly good job. The Bumpers have been rechromed, all the other chrome is good.

As you say, had JTK316 when it left the factory, but does it still have it.........hopefully the owner will let us know.

Of course, there was likely more than one engine with that engine number. On the other hand, if it has that number it is likely the original engine.

The other post states six, including the subject car, were made that day.

From my understanding the original block had a crack and was replaced by another block of the same type. Only the block was replaced all other parts are original

                        I'd like some input from guys that know these cars, what this Hawk should be worth in the present condition it is in. I know this car would be worth about 22 to 25K running and I was thinking 12K was a great price for it, but want some opinions from guys that know these cars better than I do what it is worth. As a reminder of what it is;

1964 GT Hawk with the fallowing original equipment; R1 4 barrel motor with a fresh rebuild, (block was replaced due to a crack with same type) 4 speed on the floor "with bucket seats & console" also rebuilt, posi rearend rebuilt, Has factory AC, PS, power disc brakes, gauge pack with tach and clock and 160 mph speedo. New tires. 99 to 100% complete but needs finishing. Needs interior, wiring, trim installed, Comes with 2 sets of interior, the original black in very nice shape and a wine colored set. 2 sets of glass. Extra fenders, hood, grill, suspension parts, and rad. Has a new paint job, but not the best work I've seen. Needs touched up.

This where you look for PART of the story to put this engine change thing to bed finally.

You may not understand that the important Avanti/Jet Thrust Engine parts that really matter are INSIDE the Block.
So, we can see that when the block was replaced, the items on top and outside of the engine were swapped over, but even the Oil Pan and special "Windage Trays"-splash pans may not have been.

Also the High Performance Camshaft, High Compression Pistons, H.D. Cam Gear, Dual Point Distributor, etc. This is why ANY info you can get including which Block Serial Number is now in there would help a lot in determining desirability and value.

Please do not pay any attention to this 1960 and earlier Water Outlet and Top Rad. Hose that is different from yours.

As to value, Hagerty puts a #3 driver at $16,600. The 4spd could get an additional 15%. You might also get a little better if you can document the R1 engine. As has been mentioned, some of the R1 parts are obviously missing. The value from Hagerty is for a complete, running car in good condition. On Ebay, good examples of GTs have been selling for around $10,000. Unfortunately, what you have is a project. Project cars do not bring much. The best thing to do would be to put it on Ebay with a reserve you can live with and see how it goes.

No good pictures, no engine block number, modified, my guesstimate is $9K to $12K.

As stated, put it on eBay with a good description, a low starting bid to get the auction working and a reserve that you can live with. The market will tell you the current market price/value.
