I have been bidding on a truck presently on Ebay. It's a LONG way from here, so a Stude buddy nearby the truck offered to take a personal look at it for me. As it turns out, the description of the vehicle provided by the seller isn't exactly correct. It isn't a cheapie. Is this grounds for a bid retraction?

Technically no, but you could still do it rather then take a bath. You could e-mail the seller first and ask him to cancel your bids based on your inspection finding. If he did that you would not have a bid retraction show up on your ebay record.

Greetings, Steve,

If the description is misleading or incorrect as to fact, such as equipment, make, model, year, then it is grounds for bid retraction. If it is about condition and subject to individual interpretation, such as "clean", or "runs fine," then probably not. Immediately send a detailed e-mail of your concerns to the bidder. He may be able to clarify why he feels his description is correct. If not, retract your bid.

thnx, jv.

It involves rust out on an area conveniently not shown in the pictures provided. I have emailed the seller, but he is non-responsive.

if the fact is that you thought the car looked like it did in the pictures, and in person it didn't then I would definitly retract my bid if I am no longer interested due to that, but also that is a good reason for going to look at the car before placing a bid.

I would suggest just not to feel bad for retracting your bid if you don't want the truck anymore due to the seller misrepresenting it. Rather retract a bid then to spend a good amout of $$ on something I don't want.

You're right about looking first. However that wasn't practical in this case, given that the truck is in Connecticut and I'm in Texas. I have a Stude buddy up that way but didn't realize he was so nearby the truck until after I had placed the bid. He relates that the guy was also obnoxious in person and wouldn't even unlock the doors. I really think I'm going to retract. By the way....it's the pink '59

Steve,
I just looked at the listing and it doesn't show any bid by arkiejazz. I know if you are usinng a snipe service, it would'nt show, but why don't you just cancel now before your bid is recorded?

If you scroll down to the bottom of the ebay ad, he has answered one question about rust out which he claims that there is none, that is grounds for misrepresentation, either intentionally or unintentionally.

Steve,

He says in the "Questions Section" that, "There is no rust through anywhere on the truck. It is in great condition." I would say that what was seen upon inspection is contrary to this statement and he has misrepresented the truck. Retracting the bid seems resonable to me.

I failed to mention that Joe also found that the bottom of the seat was missing. The reason you didn't see my bid now is that I went ahead and retracted it. Darn it all anyway!

In my experience, photo's never reveal the true state of an old car, even when taken to show "wear & tear" areas. Reality is always worse. Only time I buy unseen these days, is when the price is right.

An unhappy purchaser is your worst advertisement. If I put something on ebay I make a point of showing and expressing the worst problems. No fault, no foul.

If the ad points out obvious problems, you may have a good seller.
