  • Part # 1558630

Hello, Can someone tell me what this crank fits? Year and model of motor? Is it a 289 crank?

  • #2
That number is a very late number 63-64 #, but does not appear anywhere in the '59-'64 Chassis Parts Catalog. I don't think it's a part number, most likely a CASTING number, did you get it off of the crank, or a paper tag, or box? Part numbers are not "cast into" parts.

I think I'd have to disagree with you on some parts, Rich. In fact, while I've never really read it anywhere, I've concluded that alot of the numbers that are cast into things - like engine castings and pot metal pieces - ARE, in fact part numbers. Not part numbers for the finished piece, but a part number for a raw (unfinished) piece.

Nope, a "Part Number" is one that is printed in a "Parts Catalog", a "Casting Number" may or may not be one in the same. You are right though, a "Casting Number" identifies an unfinished part, ...sometimes! But identifiying numbers, are NOT "Part Numbers" Pretty much, just numbers!

SO, how cooincidental that any of the casting numbers I've seen are never employed as part numbers??? You'd think that at least on ONE or TWO instances, some two numbers would be employed for the TWO uses you allude to. No?[:I]

Since I was in the Auto parts business for 40+ years.....It was my experience that "most of the time" casting numbers were not the same as part numbers .....But sometimes they were.(not very often)
