  • 1955 truck radiator support

I just drilled 4 holes in the radiator support on my '55 truck to use a different radiator. What kind of steel are the radiator supports made from? It was tough to drill. I went to the hardware store and bought a cobalt bit and it was still hard to drill.

Am not a metallurgist, but they appear to be the same quality and gauge (10) as the truck frames. Have had the same problem drilling holes in frames, but I always assumed I was just weak.

I never tried drilling the frame that was originally under my truck. It was in such bad shape that I made the decision to do the Dodge Dakota chassis swap. I did saw thw front section, from the first crossmember forward so I could use it to attach the front bumper to the Dakota frame. It cut ok with my sawzall. thanks
