  • Hamilton Plant

Here is a video that is about a month old. Great old commercials with shots of the plant today. Interesting history. Some facts in question by narration but not a bad video.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

That remaining building never was part of the Studebaker plant , it was Otis Elevator

In addition, much of the footage was also of the adjacent Otis plant. I had a number of opportunities to be inside the Studebaker property and the graffiti shown did not exist. In fact, over the years the property was used by Allan Candy, Hamilton Film Studios, and storage facilities for Niagara wineries and Rheem products. The only time dirt floors would have been prevalent would have.been during demolition in the last year.

Otis Elevator DID buy the Studebaker property in 1967 and manufactured sub assemblies for some time, but then sold both properties to Allan Candy who operated their business for several years. The Allan business after being sold leased the Studebaker premises to Hamilton Film Studios which failed in their first year. After many years of both properties being used for storage purpose, the owners decided to sell. When no deals were forthcoming, the owner realized it was less expensive to demolish and let the land sit while awaiting redevelopment.

A lot of this post-Studebaker history has been published in Turning Wheels, authored by me. The idea of this video was good; too bad the producer's homework was sadly lacking.

Very poor bouncy video, very poorly researched, monotone dialogue garbage. Other than the interesting Studebaker ads, its not worth watching. Presume this is someone's grade school project.

I worked in the Otis Elevator factory, 1963 to 1965.
After United Technologies took over Otis, they closed it down.

Most of the building featured here is the Machine Shop for the Otis. I worked there for over 13 years. I have included a list of some videos about the plant as well as an article which was in the Hamilton Spectator the day we dedicated the commemorative plaque installed near the factory site. Today, the city of Hamilton has named a street in the new industrial park Studebaker Way. I have listed some films which can be found on you tube about the factory. Roly Lusted,
