  • Draged (hauled) home a rusty 64 R1 Cruiser

Been talking with a guy for a good two years ago about a rust 64 R1 Cruiser that he had in the weeks. I think the story goes, he bought it but the previous owner said it wouldnt run. When he got it home, sure enough it wouldnt run. He took it a part and found a busted crank. He then took the engine all a part. When I went down to get it yesterday, we found most of the parts except for the dizzy, oil pan and of course, the block. Its no where to be found. He is still looking, so time will tell.

What i did get is here. Only thing I couldnt show yet was the 3.53 rear end.

I enjoyed the photos and I have a Question so break out your Book of knowlege. What is a R1, ok I can tell from the badging on the car that it is an engine. But what made it special?

I will let the experts answer the R1 thing.

I pulled out all the parts to see the stuff. I just uploaded 9 more pictures.

I guess the 2nd previous owner had started to restore the car. There is the new dash, plus what looks to be a lot if not complete interior in a box. Also some paper work from 1985, a new TT emblem and sticker about what to use in the rear.

What a shame the block is MIA-however you got the treasure (project) to go with now, maybe the block will show up! Many dollars of valuable parts there!

I would bet that the block can be saved! (??)

Who cares about the block, any full flow block will work unless you want numbers matching. likewise with the crank, any late 289 crank will work. Good find!
