    No, not the kind that bark and eat fish, the rear engine one. I saw that tell-tale pink puddle on the garage floor, and this is only a matter of days after the engine rebuild! I was told by the original restorer that no matter how often you change the seals they will leak. Your take?

    Pink puddles indicate transmission seals (or power steering)

      Horse pukey! Unless there is another reason, such as using Best Seals and Gaskets, lateral shaft movement caused by shaft wear, worn bearings, wrong size bearings, lose main caps, or other builder assembly errors. If the shaft is moving this can cause a seal to wear improperly and leak. Over the years, I've found that what at first seems to be a rear main seal leak is in fact a rear pan leak. The thick cork strip schrinks and oil leaks out around the corners at the rear of the pan. Most of the time loosening/dropping the pan and applying a heavy gupping of RTV will take care of this problem when the pan is re-installed/bolts tightened.

      Now, that said, the front seal is another matter all together. Since it is made of felt and is technically a washer and not a true seal, it will seep as it becomes engorged with oil. That too can be remedied by a little machine work and using a modern type seal.

      As stated, the pink puddle would seem to indicate automatic transmission, or power steering fluid, as engine oil and manual transmission lubricant is a brownish color, most of the time.

        Also the front pan seal can leak if the aluminum spacer has stripped threads.

          If the pink puddle is at rear of transmission, likely the rear trans seal. If at front, at bellhousing, it's the trans front seal. If your mech did bot replace that front seal while motor was out, shame on him. Gross negligence and/or incompetence
