2:00pm (escort in for Studebakers to be pre-parked)
Event runs from 3:00pm to 7:30pm
"Cruise 'parade' runs at 7:30pm

'The Villages' entertainment department have it all set up for the Studebaker folks.
Early entrance and pre-parking on the square.[:p]

The NCFSDC chapter will be in attendance, and all and any other Studebaker owners, or just Stude people are invited to this [u]free</u> car show and parade/cruise.

There are usually 200 to 300 quality cars and trucks in attendance, so this is a real fun event.
Live music and dancing. Several restaurants right on premisis.
Happy hour from 5-7pm.

The parade is a real neat event. I have seen 5,000+ people lining the sidewalks to watch the cars cruise by.
It's a short parade, so overheating shouldn't be an issue.

The Studebakers are all parked in a nice row for your viewing pleasure.

[navy][b]Here's another teaser for the show Saturday in Lady Lake, Florida...

I submitted a short historical story to the local newspaper to promote Studebaker's participating in this show...
The assignment editor contacted me and had a reporter call me to do a telephone interview. We went over the content of the short blurb I submitted, and she started asking me a lot of other Studebaker related questions. Am interested to read the article, because she was genuinely curious about what in the heck a Studebaker was.....
Then, a while later, the television station contacted me about their coverage of the car show and the Studebaker's coming to the festivities.. He was mostly interested in what local resident's would be coming, so I whipped open my SDC Membership CD-ROM and did a quick PDF search while we chatted on the phone. He was amazed that I could ratlle off individual members, their Studebakers, and even the wive's names.. I thought nothing of it, but he thought it was pretty cool. Kudo's to the SDC for putting that feature out there for us to use.
Anyways... I invited the TV guys to come by and interview any and all of the Studebaker folk's in attendance. Maybe I'll hook the guy into riding with me in the parade... We'll see...
Hope to see some of you there. The weather forecast is awesome.

Two years ago, I took Hwy 98 to 471 north. A lot easier than driving to Polk City. Of course on the way home through the fog, I passed a large buck standing by the side of the road. It looked like that big sucker from the Hartford commercials...[:0]

Whew!
What a weekend!
Only have a few minutes to post this, as I have to take off for work (and the forum was down for a while)...
Anyways...
We had something like 16 Stude's in line (iirc) and a few parked out elsewhere.. I was cameraless ([:0]), but it was so crowded with thousands and thousands of people, it would have been hard to take pic's anyways. I know Rick Courtier took some pic's. Maybe he can share a link to them later...
The newspaper printed a nice teaser article, and except for a couple small geographical errors and omissions, they did a nice job...
http://www.thevillagesdailysun.com/articles/2008/02/15/news/news03.txt
Several Tampa area members came and a lot of the NCFSDC chapter members came. Scotty even drove his top down Pro-Mod '53 over from Daytona Beach. We had a superb time! Several 'People's Choice Awards were given out, and the after cruise parade was way cool. There were THOUSANDS of people lining the streets. It was so big that they extended the route so everyone would have a good vantage point.
The weather was perfect. The Stude's (and Stude people) were great. The people at the show were great.
The TV station stopped by and interviewed some Stude people and shot some neat video of the Stude's. Supposed to be on air Monday afternoon. I am going to see if I can get a DVD copy.
What a fun afternoon.

Here's a pic scan of the article...
Cheesy? Well, yes...;)
But it points out that promoting an event doesn't take a big machine or organization.
All that was done here was a couple of phone calls and e-mail.
Editors need content.
Let me repeat that.
Editors need content!
The number one complaint I hear/read from chapter editors is lack of content.
No big deal... Was a fun weekend.
