  • Found this intake in our pile of stuff...

    The date code has me messed up. It doesn't seem to fit the "normal" code of our other studebaker parts. On another kind of car, it would seem that 11-18-0 would be
    November 18, 1960. I thought that the first digit would be a letter. Or is that 11 actually an "H"? If so, then what is the "0"? Any thoughts?

      If they put the Alpha Code for the year Last, instead of first on these it COULD BE: Nov.18, 1960? But then how does a date on an Intake really matter?
      1947 = A, 1960 = O X Pie R squared!

      We also can see it's a 1551328 Casting, Mold #4 on Night Shift 2, but who cares!

      I believe those Codes were used to identify and check all the possible bad parts in the batch whenever a Bad one was found. I see no other purpose, especially YEARS later.

        11 18 O is indeed the casting date code. Note that that O is the letter O, not a zero. For 1958—1964 the year code was placed after the month and date (e.g., “11 18 O” = Nov. 18, 1960--a 1961 model year intake manifold). Below are the date codes for 1947-1964:
