  • 6 and 8 Volt batteries

Every 2 -4 years, I have to buy a new battery for my 1950 Champion. Are there ways of saving the batteries after it is dead?

6 or 8 volts will not make a difference, however, placing a trickle charger on it might.

Disconnecting the battery from the car's circuitry while it is in storage or a longer period of disuse will help it last longer as well.

Considering this might help yourself as well as the rest of us who store cars for a long time, I wonder if the Battery Tender Plus would be its worth of weight in gold? Just plug it in and it keeps the battery charged over the winter months.....

I always thought Optimas were pretty neat. Apparently most every car show on TV that has a project seems to use Optima batteries. Our Farm and Fleet stores(a store that caters more to the farmers of the area) has the Optimas, including the one listed there. The funny thing is the Optima pictured there is what they also list as a battery to use for my 2R5. The only problem, other than the authenticity for the restorer, is that battery won't quite fill the tray as its slimmmm.

I went looking and found one here:

They also sell tar-top covers to make the battery appear stock.

I was familiar with Optima batteries, but never gave a thought to whether they had 6 volt batteries. If my FLAPS will take back the new 6 volt battery I just bought, I'll get one.
