Does anyone have pics of the 63 Studebaker Wagon out of Colorado that was at South Bend pulling a 1959 Airstream? It was a beautiful setup.

As someone who is in the middle (well stalled out is probably a better term) of a '63 Shasta camper restoration, $1400 is a good price for this trailer if there isn't any water damage to the interior or floors.

We are pulling our 68 Apache tent camper behind our 51 Commander to the nationals this year from Indiana. We have pulled several times before with good sucess. Our friends are pulling a camping trailer with a 55 Stude pickup with us.

Interior water damage is usually the problem. Very difficult and expensive to repair. This would really be a rare find if it doesn't have water damage.

Too bad one cannot show up at this for sale lot and buy a couple of these trailers.

Photo taken in October, 1939, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

You must mean this one~

I saw it at the ACD/NATMUS Museums in Auburn, IN the day my Dad and I were there. As I recall, they were headed off to an Airstream show next!!! I'm pretty sure the photo credit goes to Dad, but I did need to do a tiny bit of editing...

Dave,
That belongs to Lori and Will Sander. Lori is our Chapter President and Will is one of our tour masters. I haven't seen their setup yet, but it looks great in their pictures.

What a beautiful trailer! They've done a great job re-polishing the shell. It's funny though, when people do this the trailer is even shinier than they originally were. Airstreams were glossy, yes, but not that much so. In fact, I would be willing to bet that that shiney of a surface in the '50s and '60s would have been illegal. Kinda like Halogen headlamps.

We have a place in town that restores the old Airstreams. Our club took a tour of their facility in March. Here is a link to their site.

We're just wrapping up the Airstream International Rally in Bozeman today. We didn't get to bring a Stude/Airstream combo this year, but someone else towed a '49 Curtis-Wright (relative to Airstream) with their '48 Studebaker truck! Very cool....

We have a 1961 Airstream "Bambi" --got it from the original owners about 10-12 years ago. We've used it plenty, but never towed it with a Studebaker--currently using a Dodge Magnum with a hemi. We will be taking it to Bonneville in a couple of weeks!

Doubt I will ever use either of my Studes as a tow vehicle--my wife would CRINGE at the idea of welding a hitch on her beautiful truck and the '56 with the R1 and 4.27 gears will be too much of a beast.

A nice '64 2-door sedan with a 289 and heavy duty automatic would make a nice tow vehicle. Maybe one day . . .

Here's a pic of the Bambi back in '02 down in Death Valley. At the time I had a 3/4 ton Suburban--the LAST of the "base" models with rubber floors, all vinyl bench seat interior, etc. You could still get them like that, but less than 1000 were built and the dropped the model in '03.

Allan,

how about BOLTING the hitch to the truck? It *is* a truck, after all.

I'm guessing an old Stude truck, if equipped with a V-8, would make a better tow vehicle than a lot of newer trucks. I'd probably consider a front brake upgrade if you live in a hilly area though.

Just by looking at the stance and wheels makes me think there may not be a 6 in the 48 any more. Just a guess.

Cool thread!

Here's a shot of my 62 Lark "Betty", fixin' to make off with a vintage Trillium trailer belonging to an across-the-street neighbour!

And no, my Lark VI automatic does not actually have a trailer hitch...
