  • Engine weight

What does R2 engine and transmission weigh. I may sell one out of a wrecked Avanti I have in Texas. It has everything except for the Paxton SC. Brackets are on engine. I want to check on the best shipping for eayone interested if I decide to sell.

    This chart...

    ...says 650 pounds.

That seems a little light to me. They list a 331 Cad at 700 and a 304 Olds at 675 which sound more credible.

I don't recall the weight, but I had a complete R2 engine (no trans) shipped from the southeast to Nevada a few months ago on R&L Carriers for $140.00. It pays to shop around for freight these days.

A complete R2 will weigh about 715#. You didn't say T10 (90#) or PS (150#) Figure 25# for the plastic crate a rebuilder uses to ship engines. If it is a home-built crate, using a pallet, flakeboard and 2x4s, figure 75# to do it right. Bottom line base your price on more than 800# and less than 1000#.

I haven't made a decision about selling yet. If my health doesn't improve in the next few months I will be selling a lot of Studebaker parts, and a few vehicles. Really don't want to give up.
