I am sad to report that Alex Wilson recently passed at the age of 96 after a brief illness. Alex was a long time SDC and AACA member in Tulsa, Oklahoma who restored and enjoyed many Studebakers and Packards. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 67 years, two daughters and several grandchildren.

It's with a sad heart; I send this email to inform you of the passing of Alex Wilson, one of the founding members of our club, on December 8th following a brief illness. Alex was 96.

Born Alex Raymond Wilson in Pittsburg KS on December 15, 1919, Alex graduated from Tulsa Central High School, and initially attended the University of Arkansas. He returned to school several years later to complete a degree in Physics at The University of Tulsa.

Alex served his country during World War II as a Master Technical Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater, participating in the Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Gunto, and Saipan Operations. For his service he received four bronze stars, as well as other awards and commendations. He was very proud, but never boastful, of his service to his country. “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

During his younger days in Tulsa, he worked alongside his family at the family business – Michaelis Cafeteria, a Tulsa favorite. Alex also worked in Oklahoma, California and Utah before and after his time in service. He built his career at Public Service Company of Oklahoma, starting in the meter shop and retiring 33 years later as a district manager.

While working at PSO, he met the love of his life, Helen Payne. Married on April 10, 1949, they shared 67 wonderful years together. After his retirement from PSO, Alex spent time traveling with his wife, and doing what he loved best – restoring antique cars, Packards and Studebakers in particular. He was a founding member of the Tulsa chapter of the Studebaker Driver’s Club, and an active member and officer of the Antique Automobile Club of America, and especially enjoyed his regular Tuesday lunches and Saturday breakfasts with his friends. Alex was also a member of the Pilgrim Rock Masonic Lodge and the Fraternal Protective Order of Elks.

Alex is survived by his wife Helen; two daughters, Kathleen Wilson and JoHelen Wilson; three grandchildren (the joy of his life) Travis Wilson, Sarah Kranau and Elena Beene; his sister Grace Gamble, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Alex Raymond Wilson, Jr. and Alice Escobedo Wilson, two sisters and one brother.

Services honoring Alex’s life will be held at 10:30AM on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Stanley's Memorial Chapel in Tulsa on the corner of 31st and South Pittsburg. Burial with Military Honors will be at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, our club will be making sending a donation in his honor to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. If you would like to leave a personal message for Alex's family, you can do so by going to Alex's webpage at StanleysFuneralHome.com.

I know Alex will be greatly missed by all of us. He was a kind man with a big heart who loved to talk with and share his knowledge and love of cars.

A great photo Charlie, thank you. I've known Alex for many years. He and my Dad (Hudson "Hupp" Wallis) were close friends since the 1960's. Alex was always ready to pitch in and help with any project you had.
