    New to the Forum

Hi my name is Ulli, a German located in Bavaria close to Munich.
I do own two Studebakers. A 63 Avanti R2 and a 1960 Hawk Restomod and some other classic cars (Corvair, VW, Porsche, Pontiac) - but for the last couple years the Studebaker became my fav.
Attached you will find some pictures of my Studes.

    Take care
    Ulli

Yes, very nice looking Studes!...How long have you owned them? Is there a chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club in Germany?

    Cool indeed!
I find it strange that there's no Studebaker club in Germany, I've seen quite a few German Studebakers.
& by the way, there's also a Studebaker club in Holland & it's a good one, they even have a special guy who has LOADS (for being in Europe) of spare parts!
    Engine-pictures would be nice too...

hi, here are some more pictures of the Hawk - thanks for adding me to the forum.
I know that there are some other Stude drivers here in Germany but more up north, I am in the deep south, Bavaria. We started a group of Corvair drivers here in Germany about 8 years ago with just 2 guys, right now we are up to about 20. There might be a chance to do the same with the Stude owners. Studes as well as Corvairs are not very common here in Germany, most of the US related classic car guys are driving a Mustang - it is just like owning a VW Golf/Rabbit - everybody has one:-).

I have one question: My Avanti carb is worn, at least I hope it is, I do need about 12 gallons on 60 mls ;-), do you have a source to get it rebuilded? Thanks for any input.

    Take care
    Ulli

To get your carburetor properly rebuilt send it to a real Studebaker guy.

Before you rebuild the carburetor, have you checked the dwell if you are still running points in the distributor? If find my Stude V8's will run great but consume a lot of fuel if they do not have 32 degrees dwell. If you do ship your carburetor, I too can vouch for Dave Thibeault. Great cars, thanks for sharing.

Welcome to SDC and to the SDC Forum Ulli.
Do you know what modifications were done to that Engine like larger R3 Intake Valves, Avanti R1/R2 Camshaft, higher Compression Pistons, larger Bore?
These things make good Power but can hurt the gas Mileage.

I see it has lots of external Mods. like an Aluminum Intake Manifold that has no Choke Heater to help pull off the Choke after warmup.
A Stock Carter AFB for an Avanti would have a mechanical Temp. controlled choke not a Electric one like the New Edelbrock AFB Clones do.

UPDATE: I just noticed that the Fuel Line enters at the Right rear side, not the Front as a Studebaker Carter AFB does, so you may have been "Told" it is a Stude. Avanti but it is NOT.
If it is more than 550 cfm size, that could be part of your problem.

Also what is the Rear Axle Ratio? Any higher numerical (Low Ratio) than a 3.73, if it has a Direct Drive non-Overdrive Transmission will cause bad Fuel Mileage.
That can be found on the Tin Tag under the rear Differential Cover BOLT at about 8:00.

Hi, the engine in above pictures is the Hawk engine, the Avanti engine is an R2, all original to the bone :-) - see attached picture.

    Welcome aboard; nice cars! BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

    Ayn Rand:
"You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality."

    G. K. Chesterton: This triangle of truisms, of father, mother, and child, cannot be destroyed; it can only destroy those civilizations which disregard it.

    Ulli, Welcome to the Forum.
    Excellent Studes.
You have the "sporting" Studebakers. Beautiful. Those are both on my Stude dream bucket list, to own some day.
Right now, I'm a LARK guy, which is on the lower end of the Studebaker hierarchy. They are the easiest to find and move into the Studebaker hobby.

I can vouch for Dave T. and his work. Dave was the person who coordinated the performance build on the 1964 engine I used in my 1960 Lark restoration.

Another source for mechanical / restoration work is Bob Munter @ WCD Garage Inc. He teams with Dave too. Bob is a rare find, humble, quiet, honest and all around nice guy.
I trust him so much, I travel 1,100 miles each way to his WCD shop every 2 years or so. He keeps my '60 Lark running in tip-top shape. I turn him loose to go over the car, while my Wife & I vacation in the New England area.

Plus, I love seeing what is the latest Stude project he is working on.
Here is a link about Bob.

Hi all, thanks for the url and thanks for the names, in Germany it is quite hard to find someone with Studebaker experience.
I just passed German inspetion on yesterday without any issues. Headlight had to be changed together with front indicatiors (orange). What do you thing.. do the headlights look good on the Hawk or should I go back to the classic ones.
