  • '64 Commander 1st time out this year

I woke up the car 2 weeks ago since the Cadillac was down and took it to the local, weekly show, just for fun. Everyone smiles when they come up to the car. Kind of cool.

Hi Dave, Beautiful Commander you own! Same colors of the 1964 Commander my Dad purchased in 1963 from Przwara Motors. His was a V8, three speed with overdrive, four door sedan. Bought it off the lot and had zero options except the OD.
He did purchase front and rear bumper guards and a AM manual tune radio. Dealer installed. Our Commander had quad headlamps, was that way from Studebaker, I was with him when he purchased it. I have noticed your car has single headlamps and I have noticed others with singles and then others still with quads like Dads. Wonder why that was?

Bill, I believe the quad headlamps were an option much like the chrome windshield moldings on the early Lark Deluxe's. Someone will correct me if I'm worn here.

          Thanks Warren,
Makes sense, I can't remember if the other Commanders on Przwara's lot had single headlamps or if they all were quads. Guess it would have been how the dealer ordered them?
I tried to get Dad interested in the gold Avanti on the showroom floor. No go.
He was 6'1" and always wore a fedora with his suits while working. Said he wouldn't fit in the car wearing his hat.
We drove home in the white Commander. It became our second car in 1967, served well for many years.
