  • Stude 2 ton Diesel

Just got an email from a lady whose grandfather was a Stude dealer and she has a rather rusty DIESEL Stude she wants to sell sitting in her grandfather's old barn. She thinks it is a 2 ton.

How hard is it to find diesel parts for these engines? Who is the best supplier? Should I mortgage the house? Idiosyncrasies of these engines?

I was trained in John Deere diesels many years ago, so I do have some familiarity w/diesel engines.

Parts for the Detroit Diesel engine are very easy to find. That 53-series engine is still in production to this day. Do you have the full serial number for it?

Almost everything on that truck except the engine is the same as on other big Stude trucks. Rust-free body parts will be a lot harder to find than any of the mechanicals. That having been said, I would not mortgage the house -- big Stude trucks, both gas and diesel, tend not to be highly valued. Storage alone is a considerable challenge. Both Craig and I know that well.

As do I, currently I own 8 Studebaker trucks that are 1 ton or larger (along with 2 International Harvesters).

I almost had one last year. Sadly, it went east as some lucky-duck beat me to it.

They have a blue diesel truck too...
