    1960 Lark forum registry

All right folks, if you have a 1960 Lark (or know of one) - lets see them. Put up all the information you have and a photo or two would be icing on the cake. Please leave out any personal information - someone can pm you if they want to "talk." Dates in ( ) are when the vehicle was added to the thread - all you need to do is click on the VIN to go to that car's post. Don't forget about those 1960 Champs - http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...843#post870843

OK - lets see what you have. I will post links in this initial post - so you can either scroll through all the posts or simply click on the serial number above and go straight to that post. And this does not have to be a car you own - could be one you know of or one that is for sale you saw somewhere - just want to see how many we can come up with.

    ID plate - 60S-11418
    Body plate - 60S-W4 3636
W4 Deluxe four door sedan- velvet black with red/black cloth interior (repaint in 1980s - interior still original - minus rubber floor covering).
Factory installed accessories: Overdrive, dry air cleaner with silencer, undercoating, climatizer, and regal upgrade kit.

    Final assembly date - September 30, 1959
    Destination - La Grange, Texas

Sold at the La Grange Auto Clinic in December of 1959

Car remained just outside of La Grange until about 1983 when it was found by a Studebaker Drivers Club member James Terry of Cameron, Texas. Car had 32K miles on it at that point and was all original, including interior. Was purchased and because of weak paint, it was repainted a short time later.

Car was sold in 2001 to third owner and we bought it in 2003. Upon purchase it was showing 47K miles - as of summer, 2017, it has 54K. Car now lives in the Frankfort, Kentucky area.

Car show from 2006 when it was still wearing its full wheel covers - since retired.

Stainless exhaust from north of the border - medium tone muffler sounds great...

Photo from the summer of 2016 - car was sold new in Texas - but photo was taken in Kentucky

A little closer to being back to what it was when new...got rid of the chrome grill surround and chrome headlight ring.

Car finally returned to South Bend for the first time in May of 2017 for the International Studebaker Meet.

SOLD, where do I pay? That is ONE SWEET '60 Lark VIII Regal even has Back-Up Lights!
They look so cool with the Window surround Mouldings, Padded upper & Lower dash, Deluxe Steering Wheel and Horn Rim, Grill surround Moulding, Chrome Head Light Rims and all, if I had a Deluxe I would have to sell it, or add a LOT of stuff!

What no '59 Lark registry? Virtually the same Car, just not quite as neat without the curved Body side 1/4 Panel Moulding.

Too late to get the numbers. My brother drove it off an embankment in about '78 with only 30,000 miles. 60 Lark VI 2DR, dark green, dark green tint, green cloth interior and OD. Bought new by my great-aunt, in or around Schenectady, New York. Would love to find another one.

Looks like it is almost TOTALLY stripped down for the crusher, was Oasis Green but has a light blue '59 Front clip added.
If I were going to take everything but the Main Body and 2 Doors off, I would also keep the front clip, ...strange.

NOW, it's For Sale! The Blue Lark behind it is a 2 Door, so not all of the Body Parts will fit it.

Very sharp Little Lark VI ! Those 4 Doors have to be a bit Rare in Velvet Black.

I spent quite a while going through the '59-'64 Body Parts Catalog, checked the Part Number Index, then my March 1, 1961 and also the '62 Parts and Accessories Price Book "F" trying to find the 1337070 W4 Trim upgrade Kit hoping it would mention the contents... NO Luck not listed in either, not even a Price. I guess it could have been out stock by then.

I am pretty sure it was just the Windshield and Backlight Stainless Trim.

You could purchase the Standard on Regal, Deluxe Steering Wheel with Horn Ring and or the Padded Dash Top only, I believe as Factory Options on Deluxe's, but that was about it.

The Chrome Headlight Rims and Grille Moulding, I believe had to be ordered after sale and swapped out if desired.

I also wonder if the W4 kit included rear arm rests, passenger door arm rests, and passenger sun visor - car has those as well. Maybe there is a service bulletin or dealer publication that explains what is in that kit. TW article on these cars simply gives the order number (80) and "various" under the prices.

The extra shinny bits on this car were added by the second and third owners from the mid-80's to about 2001. I have removed the radio and will try to get the other items back to original when the time comes. Third owner also bought the NOS regal steering wheel - looks nice but would like to go back to an all black wheel eventually.

I can't help but wonder why you didn't include the '59 Larks. The '59 and '60 Larks are virtually identical. Since you're doing the work, you can set it up any way you wish, but perhaps you can consider including the '59s. Just wondering.

I wanted to try and keep the scope small enough that I could manage to keep up with it - but all it takes is someone starting another thread titled something like "59 Lark registry/roster/etc." No one necessarily has to keep up dating and linking the post like I am doing here, it is something I wanted to do to keep it a little more managed (being a teacher I feel like if things are not organized, chaos can break out at any point...).

60V-6269 / 60V-W4- as of August, 2015, forum member now owns this car and it lives in Germany.

Radio (but no antenna?), climitizer, oil filter

Early V8 with a claimed 13K original miles - could be true by the looks of things.

Here is the story on the car from a forum member who goes by the name of Studefan:

Let we tell you about that beautiful green 60 Lark in the first post and in the ebay ad. I know it well since we resurrected it from its tomb.

Back in about 1978/79, my Dad saw an ad in the Pittsburgh PA newspaper for a Studebaker for sale for $500 and we went to look at it. A super nice 80 year old lady answered the front door. We asked about the car and she said, "follow me." We went out back to a detached cinder block single car garage. She opened the side door and we entered. We went over at night so it was dark out and there weren't any lights in the garage. Luckily, we brought a flashlight. The car had about a quarter inch of dust on it and the tires were flat on one side so it was leaning badly to the right. It didn't look like much so we weren't too excited at first.

The elderly lady said it was her deceased husband's car and he drove it to work everyday. When asked where he worked, she said 2 miles down the road. Dad was talking to the lady for while and I moved over to take a closer look at the car. I noticed the tires and they looked original. I wiped the dirt off the drivers door glass and shined the flashlight in. It looked clean. I asked if I could open the door and the lady said, please do. When I opened the door, I noticed the distinct "new car" smell immediately. I looked at the pedals and then the odometer. 10,000 original miles. I was absolutely convinced of the mileage and the interior was flawless. I called dad over to take a look himself. He said, yep, that looks original to me.

Dad told the lady that we'd like to buy it but don't want to pay the $500. The lady said, "is that too much?" Dad said, no, "it's too little." He said, "I'll give you $1000 for it. Is that OK?" The lady was thrilled and a deal was made.

We got the car home and it was my job to clean and detail it. I buffed the paint and we did replace the headlight rims and grille mesh with NOS parts. I did repaint the radiator, valve covers, air cleaner, and engine block. The rest of the car remained completely original. Underneath was very clean and I remember yellow caulk mark numbers still on the frame.

We took the car to the 1980 Gettysburg PA National meet and won a third place trophy. We were pleased as that was against several restored cars. We drove it locally to shows, etc. over the coming years and I can't even describe how well it ran and drove. It was like going back in time as the 259 was silky smooth and the car was as tight as a new car with no rattles. What a pleasure to drive.

Dad sold it to a local guy maybe 10 years later (1990?). Every year we would talk about our Studebakers of past and wondered if the local guy still had the green 60 Lark. Last Christmas, Dad brought it up again and I said, "let's take a ride to find out." We headed over and the gentlemen still had the car. We visited with him for a few hours and he said, let's look at the car. He started it up and it ran as smooth as we remember. We left pleased with the visit and told the guy to give us a call if we ever wanted to sell it and we'd buy it back.

We never got a call. Imagine my surprise when I saw the car on ebay the other day. I'm not sure how the car got to Missouri (where the dealer on ebay resides) but it traveled far within the last year. It still looks like a beautiful little Lark, although I did notice that the driver seat got soiled a bit since we owned it.

Anyway, it is an amazing original and I hope someone enjoys it and takes care it for many years to come.

That is a beautiful '60 Lark VIII 4 Door, and I can believe the Mileage because of the Interior, but I am not buying the Paint and Engine compartment as ORIGINAL!

It is odd that there is no sideview Mirror or Antenna, I wonder what the chances are that an older person bought it with a Radio he did not want, but the Dealer threw it in rather than remove it, so he just tossed the Antenna in the Garage and never Played it?

That's a stretch I know, but the only other option is that the last owner was trying to spiff it up so he Painted it, detailed the Engine & Compartment, added the Chrome Headlight Rims and the Radio, maybe welded up the Mirror holes before Paint?

That was my guess on the paint/engine compartment as well. The radio - I am wondering if someone found one on Ebay/somewhere and thought it be a good addition, but did not drill an antenna hole or even look for the correct knobs - it doesn't even have a condenser on the generator or regulator. I wondered about the trunk paint - my late Sep. 59 has the trunk painted the same color as the exterior. Is the grey done on some cars, but not all?

Seeing as this car does not have OD, not having any other accessories is not a stretch. I am really liking the bias-ply blackwalls - have always wondered what my Velvet black W4 would look like with the same...

If anyone knows of the whereabouts of my old HT, Buttercup, I'd love to know how and where she is. Last thought to have been sold somewhere out west about 2010 or so. 259, 3 speed, OD power steering. Sadly I lost all documentation, including the serial number. Came from Lee Delabare from Skip Lackie, from John Poulous. Maybe one of them will see this and provide the serial number.
