  • Avanti body plate

Is the body number plate on the Avanti in the same location as it is on a Lark?
Is the serial number plate on the top of the passenger side frame rail close to the firewall?
Anyone have a photo of either? Thanks.
    Mike

To: M15 Trucker,-----You've got the serial number plate location right. The body number plate, located on the passenger side upper cowl area on a Lark, would be located on top of the right fender apron,
in the engine compartment just forward of the heater motor, on an Avanti.

A man with a 64 Avanti for sale said the only tag he saw showed the number RO3827. Most likely that's the body tag and the correct number should be RQ3827. IIRC for a '64 the serial numbers would be R4800 to R5000's.

To: M15 Trucker,-----That's right....RQ3827 would be a 1964 Studebaker Avanti body plate designation. P.S....Is this a car You may buy?...64's are always interesting to hear about.

To: SN-60,---I don't know right yet if I want to buy it. It's in Montana, the seller wants $2500.00, on Craigslist, a bit hammered with a none working, disassembled, looks like SBC engine. Here are some photos of it:

Don't get me wrong, I love Avantis but it's gonna take a lot of eye bleach to get those images out of my mind!

Do you plan anything other than using this Avanti for parts?

EDIT: The C/L Avanti that I recently posted, that had an asking price of $1800, looked like a new car compared to this one.

THere is a LOT of work needed on that baby. I sure hope you can get the price down & get it back on the road. That doesn't look like a Studebaker engine in it, does it? The mice apparently had one heck of a party in there!

What ever barn it was in, the guy must of had a couple of bats of pink insulation laying around it or on it.

The insulation should help with the heat that pours in from the engine compartment (when it is running) ...Bob

It apparently WAS a R2 4 Speed. But, that is going to be a mighty EXPENSIVE restoration, all that Glass and Interior, will be hard to find as well.

Anybody notice the 8000 rpm tach? That's worth some change.

Quite a mixture of parts...R2 fender tags, yet it looks like it had factory air. As studefan pointed out, it also looks like it has a R3 tach.
I thought my Lark was a project, but wow, that is way beyond my abilities...or wallet!

It also appears to have the heat sink for a transistorized ignition...aftermarket, Studebaker/Prestolite or GM?
