  • 1947 Studebaker M-15 1 tron truck

Forgive my ignorance, but I have just purchased a 1947 Studebaker M15 truck and I'm not sure how to drive it. Do I need to double clutch in order to shift smoothly through the gears and what about downshifting? It does not want to downshift at all it seems. Thank you in advance! Don

Straight cut gears, unsynchronized 4 speed. Granny low.

Shift very slow or double clutch to up shift. To down shift, shift to neutral, let the clutch out, match the revs with the speed of the truck, depress the clutch and slide it into the next lower gear. All this will take A LOT of practice if you have not done it before.

Does it go into gear smoothly when the vehicle is stopped? If not, the clutch may need adjusting or replacing. As Dick said, it takes some practice to get proficient on the non synchro trannys. You probably look like I did on my first try with a Road Ranger.
