Hi all, Just pulled the 52 Studebaker Commander State 2dr coupe drag car called THE MAGGOT out of a barn after a 34 year rest and its in great shape. Plan to do some history hunting on the car & driver Pete Magel . Also plan on doing some mild massaging to get it up and running and will keep you posted. Got any stories or pictures? Let me know. I also got a 60 Lark I think was the last car Pete was working on with the 52, more on that car latter. Anyway Hello all. Bob

Hello to all. This is my first post on one of these message boards, so hopefully I will get it right. I just bought my first Studebaker - a '59 Silver Hawk for my 53rd birthday. Here are a few photos. I am very lucky, in that I purchased it in this condition. It currenly has a SBC engine, but I am considering either the correct 259 Stude engine (was just outbid today on e-bay for one, at the last minute) or -- if She Who Must Be Obeyed permits -- may try to build a Studillac with a 500 inch Eldorado engine. [I just can't see leaving the SBC in there, pretty as it is...]. I've just joined the club and the local VA chapter, and look forward to driving this thing!
I don't know the full history of this car, but understand it was build by a guy named Arvid Berge in California sometime in the last 7-8 years. I bought it from the guy who bought it from Arvid.

I've made a few posts to the forum, but never added my 2 cents to the "New Guy on the Block" area.
I was born in South Bend, raised in Mishawaka and graduated from MHS in 1966. Most of my family worked for Studebaker at one time or another, my uncle until the last day, well night as he was on the night shift.
I drove a 62 Daytona 2 dr hdtp while in high school and then on to Fort Bragg, NC when I joined the Army.
Moved to Arizona in 1969 and got involved with Thunderbirds, 1955-57's. Last year I bought 4 1950 Champions to build 3 from. A Starlight Coupe, a 4Dr Sedan, and the one I really wanted, a Regal Delux Convertible.
I joined SDC and attended a couple local meetings and decided I needed a driver to enjoy the events during the Champs restorations. Located a 1966 Daytona in my high school colors and bought it. We enjoy driving it and took it to the national meet in South Bend this last summer. While there I ordered the build sheet and any other production information I could get. What we got back was the best news, it's the very first documented 1966 Daytona. That has been verified by Stu Chapman also and he has given me a lot of information about the series of cars that were taken fron the 1965 production line and reconfigured into 1966 models for promotions and shows.
Anyway, I'm kind of new to the forum, but not to Studebakers and I hope to learn a lot more from the experts posting here.sigpic1966 Daytona (The First One)

Well, having owned a restoration shop and having a pretty good amount of knowledge to start with, I can usually tell those that have done, or know, from the tire kickers. That being said, sometimes good ideas comes from the strangest places.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum here. I have a 1951 Land Cruiser and cant wait to work on it in the next coming months. I have done some research on it and all I know is that I will need a great community like this to help me if I am ever going to get it driving again. I will make a thread for the car with its history and what I might need help with. I just wanted to take this time to say hi while I can't sleep from thinking about it .

Hi, my name is Danny i just aquired my first Studebaker a 1962 Lark Sedan. This isnt my first classic car i also have a 62 buick 60 chevy truck 74 dodge truck 84 dodge truck 86 fiero, i found the studebaker cheap and thaught it would be a neat little car to have it has a 259 V8 in it and power steering, it seems to be pretty complete except for the "T" missing off the trunk lid. It needs rockers and front floorpans and some patchwork on the bottoms of the doors. It has 40,000 orig miles on it but unfortunatley not being stored properly has been rough on it i hope to get it going and looking good again soon

Hello All!! I joined, always liking Studebakers and not getting many chances to see or experience them, growing up in So Cal, where i am currently. My Dad grew up in S. Bend so I got to hear plenty of good stories bout em, anyway. Last week i was "prospecting" a good looking scrapping spot on an Indian Reservation and saw some chrome down in the brush so i descended the mountain into the oaks and was amazed to see, first, a 55 bel-air, all taillights and chrome, script intact, even glass, minus the front clip. further down i find yet another, a 56, in the same condition, still mostly paint colored......then... way way down, maybe 600ft, something green, a worn out green but by no means a rustbucket... theres a '36 Stude coupe, dash, glass intact, minus fenders and few other parts!!!! I love it!!! Ive asked the appropriate tribal members and its all "JUNK" over there. cant be anything "good" after all these year, go ahead and scrap whatever you want, as long as theres a tribal member overseeing it......good score, eh guys? ill know more, verify year, etc after i get it up the hill.,ill posting pics before then!! it looks as if they were all lowered there for safekeeping 50 years ago!!

Hello everyone, I figured that I would give my introduction here. I have always been involved with classic cars and at some point in life I knew I would experience owning a Studebaker. I am looking at buying a 1956 President 4 dr, black and white. I also know of a parts car in the area which has puzzled me. First it is a cut down car made into truck. The entire rear body was cut off and a piece of an old truck cab was welded to the back. What is puzzling is that the front fenders.grill bumper is a 1957 Champion, but the dash is a 1955 Champion (has two large circles for the speedo and gauges). The inner handles/cranks are of the clip style so they are the later model type. I think this car/truck is a mix of various years, or is it possible that Canadian built 1957's used the 1955 Dash? Many possibilities, the doors could be from a newer Studebaker. Sorry I do not have pictures , any information would be great.

Hey All, New to SDC but not Studebakers. I have been interested in old cars for as long as I can remember. I tend to gravitate toward the non mainstream models. I bought my first Studebaker, a rusty 53 2R5, about 4years ago, which is complete as a driver. I then bought a rusty 55 Champion, which I sold. I recently acquired a 61 Hawk that I am currently working on and is nearing completion as a "survivor".
I also have a 70 Ford Galaxie 500, that I have owned for over 21 years, and a rusty carcass of a 56 F250.
My plans are to spend less time in the garage, and more time enjoying the fruits of my labor. Of course I have been saying that for years, usually my next project is waiting in line before the current one is finished, so time will tell. It is hard to break old habits.

Here's a little Studebaker story for y'all. Probably the first Studebakers that I saw were in movies when I was a kid in the 80's, such as the 1950 & 1951's in The Muppet Movie, Grease 2, Oh What a Night and Mischief. The tow truck in Porky's was cool too.
My dad's first cars were Studebakers. He tells me stories of his first car being a 1947 Studebaker Champion 3 window business coupe, his friends always made fun of the car, saying it was very odd looking with a mile long trunk lid. He tells me he always had troubles with the transverse leaf spring popping out on the rough roads back in the day (mid 50's) .His second Studebaker was a 1951 Champion 4 dr. He did buy a convertible of the same year once just for parts. He only needed a fuel pump and there was no new or used pump to be found in the area. He knew of the convertible that was parked in a farmyard, but unfortunatly chickens had their way with the top and wrecked the top and interior. Another classic story of wishing the car was kept, but it was just an old worn out used car back in the late 50's.
