    Re 8717: 30 cents a gallon seems really high for 1957. I remember being pissed in 1972 when the premium gas I had to run in my daily-driver motorcycle went from 37 cents to 42 cents a gallon, and that was in California. Tom

    Okay, I may be pushing the limits a bit with this photo, but considering the Studebaker-Packard-Mercedes relationship I thought I would post this. The really interesting thing is who is in the Gullwing. The driver is the owner of the the 300SL, a Mr. Duncan and British photographer. The gentleman next to the passenger side door is Pablo Picasso and in the middle is his wife Jacqueline Roque.

    8733, have you ever noticed in old time photos that people rarely smiled, take a look at the young man on the far right with the nice big smile, makes the rest of the group look like a typical gathering of grumpy old Studebaker owners.

    The snowman is smiling. Sure wish I had that wagon.
    They aren't smiling because they have to stand out in the cold and snow. The older I get, the more I hate winter.

    Besides some people not liking to pose for photos, (Me for example) in the old days by the time everyone was in place and the photographer got the camera ready, you just wanted it to be over. Many people are squinting in old photos because they usually were placed facing the sun.

    Joe, initially I looked up the Irwin hotel and found this blog;
    http://eomahaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=2585

    I then cut and pasted he image to my friend Steve Storz who grew up in the Storz Brewery that his dad and uncles owned. I peg that picture as around 1963 and Steve was about 10 so I thought he would enjoy.

    His reaction was to confirm and comment on how that Falstaff Beer billboard must have pissed off his family every time they were down there, around Jackson and 17th.

    8744, if you're in A'dam - don't try to look for this place since it must have been where the RAI is now.
    Thou there is a Scheldeplein without "West" & the street is still there too, but these are not close enough to each other to meet.

    This 12 year-old Stude is missing a windshield wiper and the front cap of the hood ornament (or has a reflector like the lower fender ornaments in it). It is a two-tone and has a body side trim we don't recognize here in USA. The fender vent is rusting out, as well as possibly the rear fender. It has a bead between the lower leading edge of the front fender and the valance panel that the US cars didn't have.

    Ken, thanks for the info. I remember as a kid the Storz Brewery, but could not tell you where it was. There were several breweries in Omaha back then.
