        • From Hemmings Daily Blog:

We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.

          G. K. Chesterton: This triangle of truisms, of father, mother, and child, cannot be destroyed; it can only destroy those civilizations which disregard it.

                • Interesting picture, appears to be an IOWA class battleship at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard.

I found on Wikipedia that the USS IOWA was deactivated at San Francisco in September 1948. This might be a picture of this event.

The IOWA (BB:61) is now located in Los Angeles (San Pedro) Harbor as a museum ship.

The other IOWA class battleships are also museum ships:

USS NEW JERSEY (BB:62): Camden NJ .. USS MISSOURI (BB:63): Pearl Harbor .. USS WISCONSIN (BB:64): Hampton VA

Very nice pic. I hope you enjoyed your cruise to Hawaii. Thanks for the details, by the way. So far, I thought the IOWA was a single ship, not a battleship class.
