  • Ricky Nelson Avanti

About two years ago I sold a Cobra replica to Gunner Nelson , one of the twin sons of Ricky Nelson.
Both brothers are auto guys and know their stuff.
In our conversation I had mentioned that his fathers Avanti was available and did he have any interest.
His reply was that he wanted a Pantera that his father had owned and was not allowed to buy from the estate , because of his Uncle David.

I explained to him from my knowledge that his father special ordered the Avanti for his own use and that the Pantera was a walk in the dealership and I'll take it situation. It fell upon deaf ears. I thought it was a significant car and that he would have some interest

You either love an Avanti or you don't.

The old thread mentions two cars...red and gold.
Which was it? (Which pioster is correct since there was no firm answer?)
And was it really special ordered?

PS. I can see his uncle vetoing his purchase of the Pantera. I'm assuming the estate sale was fairly close to his father's death. A young kid with a Pantata could be trouble.
Uncle David didn't want to push the family's luck too much.

He is now. Ricky (this will make you feel old) died 25 years ago, as noted in another post. The boys would have been 18 or so then.

Just saw the news tonight. David Nelson has died at age 74 of colon cancer. So the last surviving member of this famous family is gone. Long live the memories of better times.

Yes, that was my point...he was a young kid at the time of the estate sale.

I'm sad to hear this. By all accounts, he was a straight-up guy. I saw him on TV a few years ago in an interview and he seemed very unpretentious. Hard to believe he was 74.
