Out front appears to be a 1954 Packard Clipper DeLuxe Sportster.

Rare in its day, with only 1,336 produced.

However, positive identification cannot be made from this far away; you almost have to be on top of one of those to tell the difference between a Sportster, a Clipper DeLuxe Club Sedan (1,470 produced), and a Clipper Super Club Sedan (887 produced).

At least four T-birds visible in the first Farmer's Market photo.

But I'm partial to the 1956 Chrysler 2dr hardtop. (Had a 4dr sedan in the seventies, when I was a wee lad. Dad bought it for $60 and sold it several years later for $60. I really thought we should keep it. Even at that young age [maybe 12?] I knew it was a "classic car" and had to be worth more than that!)

A beige 50-51 Stude appears in both photos. And a nice 53-54 K-body in second photo. How small that Renault Dauphine(?) looks between all that big American iron in the first photo!

EDIT: The beige Stude is not the same car in both photos. Different body styles.

You sent me off to Mapquest to find it. It's West of our trail, I-95 all the way down the East Coast. Maybe we'll take a different route next time if that place is still open <G>

I believe Andrew's Farmer's Market pix identify mine as being in Lost Angelis. Thanks again for another addition!

BTW Kurt- I bet most all of us over a 'certain age' have a heartbreaking super-cheap "one that got away" story- or stories. The cars I cut up for race cars alone would break your heart

One can see proof of brand loyalty in this postcard. GM was (and may still be) the largest employer in Flint. Appears everyone was commited to driving 'A General Motors Value' back then.

That Fisherman's Wharf would be San Francisco. I think that building with the sign is still there. Alioto's is definitely still there. The background up the hill today is filled with skyscrapers.
Take a look at the oil drip spots in the empty parking stalls. Only places you see that much these days is at auto parts stores and Wal-mart parking lots! Also notice that everyone's differentials leaked some, too. That you don't see today.

Interesting observation about the leaks, Kurt. Along those lines: It's interesting to note, here in the NE cars in the 40s and 50s had issues with the rocker panels rusting out. By the late 60s that was solved, and we never see that in the 70s and 80s cars- no matter how rusty a car gets, the rockers stayed rust-free. Then, suddenly, in the late 90s, rockers started rusting again! Planned obsolescence I guess...

    Comments:

    1. I'm sure the Mercury station wagon is a 1957, Bob. The only difference between The lowest-price Commuter 2-door wagon and the mid-price Voyager 2-door wagon was that the Voyager was supposed to have a "rear vent window like the premium Colony Park," per The Standard Catalog of American Cars. I have no idea what they are talking about!

    2. What's up with the patriotism (or lack thereof) at Ft. Bragg? Good grief; seven cars visible in the photo and three of them are imports! Was that taken last week? <GGG>

    3. A shoe company in Flora IL? You can be sure that is long gone...and if the building(s) still stand, they are dereliect and available for the price of the back taxes owed.

Meanwhile, I heard a news item on this morning's local news about meat prices spiking of late. This is reportedly due to two factors:

    1. It seems there was a drought in Russia and they don't have enough grain to feed their livestock, so they are buying more of our meat to fill in needed stocks.

    2. The rising middle class in Asia and China is eating more meat, further adding to our meat exports, subsequently raising meat prices to United States citizens.

I guess all the Chinese and Asians can afford more meat since they are selling us so many shoes. I hope all the folks in Flora IL who formerly worked at that shoe factory were able to adjust to more rural livestock-raising endeavors to feed the Chinese shoe-makers! <GGG>

Bob- That Merc brought back a memory of playing in my Dad's junkyard as a kid less than 10 years old. I can still picture most of that yard. The Merc reminded me that there was one of those in the yard, right next to an identical pair of Turnpike Cruisers. I clearly remember being fascinated with the styling, particularly the taillights for some reason. I can't begin to estimate how many hundreds of thousands of miles I imagined I was covering behind the wheels of junkyard cars...

Continuing with 'Forts', all of today's are Fort Myers/Fort Myers Beach, FL. A gorgeous resort town on the Gulf, just below Clearwater.

'Love the Ft. Myers Sea Chest, Bob; it is so period.

The 1956 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Sedan was a high-dollar car considering all the other cheapies in the photo. Too, the camera lens' refraction(?) makes the deck lid of the 1960 Ford look a bit longer than it really is. BP

And yet another '58 Ford in that same postcard with the Country Club spring offering. Someone asked about them in an earlier thread:
