  • '49 2R5 paint question - tusk ivory

Body work is done and the Stude is going for paint. I have codes and approved samples for Clover Green and Cuban Tan but I have not been able to get a useable code for the 'Tusk Ivory" used for the grill surrounds, bumpers and wheel pinstriping. I've been through the documents, paint chip sheets, searched here and on the truck site and contacted the manufacturers. Closest I get is a reference to "Ford Wimbledon White". I realize we are talking about a shade of off-white here and not too crucial in the greater scheme of things but regardless, my questions are:

    - Neither I or the painter can find "Ford Wimbledon White". What year and code is it?

    - what have others used for colours for these parts? Colour names and codes please.

      Hi Andrew,

Wimbledon white is the acknowledged close shade of white most folks wind up using.

Google it. Lots of info at your fingertips. Here's one:

A close match to "Tusk Ivory" is "1-Shot" brand paint in Ivory, code 116-L. I used it for wheel stripes on my M5, should be OK for a 2R5 grille, etc. It comes in 4 and 8 oz cans, as well as quarts. See a local supplier of sign painting materials or an art store. You can also buy it on-line - Google is your friend!

Another Ford Color you might check out is " Colonial White" it was the forerunner to Whimbleton White. Used on 57 Fords. Very close to the 65-7 Mustang color but a little creamier. I have panted both on 57 Ranchero & 66 Mustang. What type of paint are you using I have PPG codes.

            Re Colonial white.
I'm using Dupont paint because I got good codes for the green & tan colours. But I'm guessing they could work from PPG codes. I'm going to do a test with the Wimbledon White but if it looks a little bright I might try the Colonial White. Please send the PPG codes if they are handy.
