Why is it that all the advertising from the late 40's and early 50's show the people about 3/4ths scale?

Probably because they want their cars to look huge so people will think they are getting more than they actually do.

FDR was long gone by the time the 52 Studebaker was produced.
Interesting to see an ad with blackwall tires on a Land Cruiser. We are so used to show cars with wide whites we forget that most cars back then had black sidewall tires.
