Along with a couple of other members we have completed our Studebaker International Drive day. Took the '64 Hawk with a 1976 bi centennial flag flying from the antenna on a sentimental journey to the Tottenham assembly plant here in Melbourne where we built over 6000 CKD Studebakers during the sixties. The building is still standing there but all Studebaker signage is gone. Then we drove to the City locations of the two main showrooms, one which still exists but is now a Harley Davidson shop. Then on to the home of our Alex Chapman who signed the agreement in South Bend back in Oct 1959 to assemble the cars here. That contract was witnessed by Studebaker VP Dick Hutchison & Dewey Smith. Sadly, all these people are now gone. The trip was rewarding for the fellow members who came as they learnt what a rich Studebaker history exists here in Australia.
