Lark serial numbers

I have a '59 Lark with a 259 V8. Is there a way to verify the size and tell if it is the original engine by the serial numbers? Thank you for your help

No, not by the Car Serial Number, unless you buy a copy of the factory build slip from the Studebaker National Museum. But if you give us the ENGINE NUMBER from the drivers' side Front corner of the block (STAMPED, not raised) next to the oil filler pipe hole, we can ID the block, and tell you if it IS in fact one of the 1959 issue blocks. [^] Now of course you understand that it is 47 years since it was built and a LOT could have happened to it in that much time, like a 289 Crankshaft has been installed, or it has been bored or who knows![:0]

The engine serial number is stamped on a pad at the left (drivers side) front, top of the block next to the oil fill tube. You may have to wipe some grease off the engine to see it.

You can look up the SN here to see if it is the correct year for the car...

In order to tell if it is the original engine for your car, you would order the production record for your car's SN (plate on driver's side door jamb) from the Studebaker Museum...
