    48 champion hood support modifications?

Looking to help lift and support a 48 Champion hood using gas struts or other means. The cast is a street rod, so originality is not an issue. Has anyone done this?

Good question. I've been kind of surprised that in the six years of production, '47-'52, the factory never added springs to the hood hinges. Of course, those hoods are fairly long and rather heavy. Still, they put springs on the rear deck lid which is also long and heavy. Perhaps it would be possible to adapt the trunk lid hinges to the hood. Isn't that what hot rodding is all about? Good luck with whatever you do, and if you figure anything out, let us other owners know.

I’m helping a friend who owns this 48 champion street rod. He’s 73 years old and having trouble lifting the hood. Any successful modifications you all know about would be appreciated.
