    61 Hawk Resto

    Hello Everyone,
Christmas is over, so time to start the resto on my 1961 Hawk,
got stuck into it today & started stripping off the panels. Fair bit of work to do on the front guards,
but everything seems pretty solid, & not much rust at this stage, I'll keep posting on this thread as I go.
The car is at a friends barn at the moment, but will soon be moved back to my workshop.

    regards, CusIMG_0882.jpgIMG_0888.jpgIMG_0886.jpgIMG_0887.jpg

Looking good. If you havent already done it, I advise adding corner braces in the hood corners before painting. Classic makes them.

What Engine is in that thing?
That does not look anything like the front end of a '61 Hawk, Studebaker 289.

If that Water Manifold is what I think it is, I'll gladly take it off your hands so you can get the correct one!

I assume, Rich is referring to what appears to be, a 4 bolt thermostat housing cover, on the water pump manifold? I believe all '61-'64 Studebaker V8s used a water pump manifold with a 2 bolt thermostat housing cover.

The front fenders look to have been changed at one time, 61 did not use anything on top of fenders, these look like GT.

Yeahs, I agree, Bob. It looks like the fenders and hood, are from a, 62 GT. Also, I don't see any fins, in any of the pictures posted, of the sheet metal removal? Does it have them? Which tail lights and housings does it have?

Not sure why you think they are gt front guards, they have no holes for the top strip mouldings, & have holes for the side mouldings, I have spare 62 guards, which are basically the same with top holes.

I am thinking in Wales, a "Fender" may be a "Guard"! Kinda like a Hood is a "Bonnet".

Never heard of THAT one though.

Ok, the guards term, that through me off a little too. I was thinking of pieces bolted on to the bumpers. I think, I've got it now? The only holes I'm able to make out in any of the pictures you posted are on the top, front of your guards, or fenders. About where the acrylic fins on a GT should be. Your bonnet, or hood, also appears to lack the holes for mounting the chrome, trim piece, used on all '56 - '61 Hawks. I'm sorry, if I got the wrong impression from, what I see in, the pictures you posted? I'm still wondering what you have, as far as fins, and tail lights? Please, tell us more about your Hawk?

    Hello Mark,
Yes have the fins & correct tail lights, the P.O. had removed them & put '62 tail lights on, but I have now sourced all the correct parts to turn back into to a '61IMG_0551.jpg
