July 7, 2018 Greenville, PA Heritage Days Super Cruise; has had as many as 700 cars

Greenville is a small town in NW PA, about ten miles east of the Ohio border and about mid-way between Erie and Pittsburgh. It's my hometown and I again this year wish to promote its wonderful car show. Free admission, car count has been as high as 700 cars, on its old-fashioned Main St. Greenville's population is about 5,900 and is the home of Thiel College. We like to group Studes together at the far-east end of the show--at Main and College Avenues in front of Shelly Memorials, the building owned by SDC'ers Harley and Darlene Cook (my brother-in-law and sister). Food available nearby and at a couple downtown restaurants, and within short walking distance to Greenville's smallish but very impressive rail museum (Greenville was the hometown of Bessemer and Lake Erie railroad and is on the old Erie Lackawanna mainline from Chicago to NYC). The museum has a steam locomotive out front you can walk up into.

Free admission to the car show, and free t-shirts to first 200 attendees.

Hours are 2-6 on Sat. July 7. However, I can report that if you are not there probably by about 11 a.m. you will have trouble finding a spot to park!

I heard 650 registered and an estimate of 150 not registered. Beautiful weather and tons of beautiful cars lining Main St. and all side streets, for blocks.

Studes present: my '66 Cruiser, Harley and Darlene Cook's light yellow '49 Champion convertible, Dave Bonn's light blue with dark blue roof '54 Champion Starliner, Stu Moody's gold '63 Avanti with Tangerine interior, Jim Wherry's white '64 Daytona convertible (TW Feb. '93 cover car), George Vranich's white over light yellow '56 Golden Hawk, and a beautiful modified '53 Starlight coupe in a silver metallic. I didn't get the gentleman's name but he lives in Polk, PA, probably 30 miles away.

My buddy Bob drove his '63 Riviera all the way from Baltimore for the show!

It was truly a good show Bill, glad that I could get there even though I had to leave early for another commitment. May post some pictures tomorrow, I took some but they aren't that great.

This reminds me of when two friends and I went to buy a Chrysler products dealership upstate. It was a family owned, small town, dealership. First, we rode through the town and observed that the VAST majority of the vehicles were new to three year old Chrysler products. We were going to buy the dealership from the long time owner's widow. In the meeting, she made a comment to the effect that her husband could sell ice to Eskimos. One of my two friends was a long time Chrysler Sales Manager. Chrysler squashed the deal by preventing us from getting a franchise. I do not know what happened to the dealership.

EDIT: The dealership, where he was Sales Manager at that time, lost their Chrysler franchise when many dealerships lost theirs. That Chrysler store had an excellent reputation and had been in the same family for 80 years. The business is still in the same family, just not a Chrysler dealer.

Here are a few of the cars that Bill mentioned. Also, we reported last year about a '54 Hudson Hornet Special that had a 1971 PA inspection sticker and had great patina. The front license plate reads "I'm a Survivor". I really liked this car. I think Bob Palma asked more about this car last year when I saw it, so I made sure to get a picture this time around. Sorry for the picture quality and quantity.

That old Hudson was the current owner's grandmother's car from new. It's a "Hornet Special" if I'm remembering correctly. The current owner lives in Cochranton, PA, maybe 20-25 miles from Greenville on nice two-lane roads. He's at the Greenville show every year.
