    1959 Lark Seat Hinge Broke - Now what?

    For a lighterweight guy (155 lbs), somehow I managed to break the front driver seat metal hinge that's welded to the seat frame? I was just about to start my car when it snapped and the seat fell backward.The metal straight cracked off in two spots. What do I do now? Try and find a welder to piece it back together - or am I going to have to replace the whole darn front driver seat top?

    Anyone have this issue occur?

    A good welding shop should be able to repair and maybe even reinforce it , But more than likely you will have to remove the upholstery , Ask me how I know , Ed

    Had the same issue with my 1962 Lark Daytona Convertible. I removed the seat coverings and had seat bracket welded.

    Thanks! I started taking apart the seat coverings but really don't want to tear anything, so I stopped after getting the bottom staple-style brackets off and the back insert cover slidden out. It seems like I'm going to have to bend out the long slots the the back cover slides into in order to unscrew another set of bolts.

    Thanks Ed! I'll send photos of how far I've gotten with removing the upholstery later today, and if you have suggestions on how to remove the rest, that'd be great.

    Matters not if it's original upholstery or new, factory correct or custom.
    Take the seat to an upholstery shop and they can access the situation, remove the fabric and padding without destroying it and repair the frame. If the upholstery shop does not do welding, they will know who does or at least get the fabric and padding off so that you can get the repair done and then have them replace everything.

    Not sure if this had to do with your seat breakage, but Studebaker issued a Service Letter and reinforcement kit due to problems with some of the seats in 1959.
