Virgil Marple Studebaker collection to be sold

Received a phone call from Virgil's long time mechanic/car caretaker that the family is selling off his collection of over 200 cars and trucks of which nearly 100 are Studebakers.
There will be no auction, cars being sold one or a few at a time.
Numerous vehicles have already been sold to a number of Virgil's closest car collector friends.
I will be going there in the next day or two to see what's available.
I asked and can make a inventory and take pictures of cars and trucks for sale.
All vehicles have a fixed price....this is not a show up and haggle sale.Buy or walk away is what I was told.
Watch this post as I will update it after I get pics and info.
I will also provide a contact number of the individual tasked with the sell off.
Due to it being Spring and muddy conditions I was asked to mention no more than 2 cars can visit at a time.
All vehicles have been inside since Virgil owned them.
I am editing this post to say that all the vehicles have been appraised by a outside source to determine values.

I will be taking pics and getting prices. He had both of what you mention. As a number of cars have been sold I can't say what is still available.
I will be there either Tuesday or Wednesday this week.

I was expecting a VanDerBrink auction being that the collection is so extensive, though it would have been difficult auctioning these vehicles being so tightly packed in the buildings.
Though I am not in the market for anything right now, I look forward to any photos and pricing that you share.

    First update of 3
A number of the cars have been sold and are still there due to the long lasting winter/short spring.
I was in a 3 of the buildings and ran out of time and battery for the camera. There are still 2 buildings to go with some of the best cars in one of them.
I still have to take pics of a bunch of Avanti's. I took 1 pic per car to get the ball rolling.
For those who would wish me to correctly identify Avanti's by Avanti or Avanti II do that in the privacy of your own home.

    Thanks for the pics Bob.

Regarding the red/white ‘53 Studillac, I know it’s history going back to at least 1965. I’m 99% sure it’s a genuine Bill Frick car, though others who never saw it have disagreed. I’ll be happy to share what I know if anyone is interested in purchasing that one. The car needs restoration but it ran great when I owned it and I think the $8000 price tag is a steal.

I wonder about the appraiser/appraisals. I looked at many, but not all of the pictures. The prices, as I believe that they relate to the current market, are all over the place - some low, some about right and some high (and not by a reasonable margin of error).

Gary is right, some sure sellers and several that Mrs. Marple will be keeping for a while. Matt is right about the price on the Studillac. I wish I could grab it, but it won't last long.

I visited Virgil about 10 years ago or so a couple of times. The collection is amazing I was just thinking yesterday about the pristine Subaru Justy he has. He also had a 1924-25 Special 6 two door sedan I lusted after. All original, too.

I will not be posting more at this time.Explanation to follow.
Went out today and went through another building. There are 3 more to go.
Asked Trevor what the reaction was to my posts and he was overwhelmed with calls.
We talked and decided to run the cars in groups so he can do the follow up with picture requests and dealing with potential buyers.
As a one man show he is very busy and adding more cars would be too much.
He appreciates the calls and said that for a while he had 3 calls waiting while on the phone with a buyer.
Be patient. He will get all the pics sent and answer all the questions.
I can try and answer questions as I have been been.

Well then, looks like all will be taken care of here. Lovely! I do hope as many will be saved as possible and the ones that are no longer suitable will be treated with respect as they become new sources of parts.

Dropped by and spoke to Trevor on Friday. He told me to thank everyone for the interest and it sounds like a few cars will be getting new owners.
I will amend the list as cars are sold.

    Hi

You might post the Packards on the Packard Club and PackardInfo site cars for sale sections to reach those interested.

Virgil had a special affection for that Justy. Considering they were probably used as throwaway cars, his might be worth something someday. I never knew they had 3 cylinder engines. There was a derelict one a few blocks from me on the street and probably sort of ran, but it got towed away a week ago. What I really want is a 1924 (not 1925) Special Six roadster. I also want a lot of other things!

The Justy got extremely great mileage. I put $3 of gas in his and it got me at least 90 miles! He has a 1926 2 door EQ Coach 2 door 6 cylinder Studebaker. Not sure if that’s what you saw. Not sure if it is sold or not, that would be a question for Trevor. He did have a 1930 Ford roadster, but that’s been sold, if that’s what you were thinking of. It was an original 50’s street rod conversion. As for wanting other things, I want a lot of other cars! So can very much understand!!

Well, I saw a 2 door coach, and it must the 1926. I know it had those distinctive side lamps the 1926's had. Funny that I remember it with the 1924 style Special Six grille. I'm obviously wrong about that.

Not necessarily. I remember another 20’s Studebaker 2 door in really good condition that I haven’t seen in the collection currently. I’m not a Studebaker guru, but remember the car and was specifically looking for it earlier this year. He might have sold it earlier.

A update. Couple of price changes and a picture or 3 added.
1957 Golden Hawk has a new price of $10,000
1955 President 4 door has a new price of $3,000.
The 1957 Provincial station wagon is being sold alone for $2,000
The 1958 Packard station wagon is $2,500
NOS1958 Packard station wagon front fenders, rear quarters and a pair of fins $2,000.
I am adding a picture of the Packard station wagon.
A final note. These cars are currently not advertised anywhere but on here. The family wants SDC members to have the first shot at them.
If anyone knows of chapter members or a SDC member who does not frequent this forum let them know about the cars. Trevor's number is listed at the top.
This first batch will be here until it's decided to add more.

Would love to purchase the 1958 Packard! Shame is so far away. Oh well, hopefully someone will buy it and restore it as it deserves.

I suggest that anyone who may have an interest in that car to contact me. I'm the guy that sold it to Virgil. I know most of the history going back to the early 1960's and have a first hand point of view of the car's condition.

Is the ‘53 a true Studillac without the supercharger or a clone as the website says?
