  • Need Overdrive Lockout Cable

Does anyone have an overdrive lock out cable assembly to sell? The assembly I need goes from the instrument panel to the overdrive unit. It allows the driver to manually turn the overdrive on and off. This is for a 1953 2R5. Thanks!

If you aren't worried about originality, a choke cable from any auto parts store would do the trick. Can get them in most any length and cut to fit.

The last couple of choke cables I've purchased from flaps stores are pretty light duty, the last one is too wimpy to properly operate the choke on my truck so it may not operate in 'push' mode for the overdrive. I don't know how heavy-duty the overdrive cable needs to be as my car has been without an overdrive trans since the early 70's, but I do know the factory overdrive cable on my '54 coupe is way more robust compared to the flaps choke cables. BTW I decided the overdrive cable was too cool to remove from my car, so choke duty is now it's purpose. cheers, junior

Truckguy, What's the part number for your truck. Not all cables were created equal.

Most of the older farm equipment has heavy duty cables that can be used, if you don't care about originality.
I know French Lake Auto Parts has several cars and pickups, and would have a cable for you, but I don't enjoy working in 0* weather for car parts.

If long enough a hood release cable would work in a pinch.

Yes; I believe Randy reproduces them.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I'll check 5th Ave Garage and then French Lake. If they don't have what I need I'll return here.
