  • Steering: Toe setting 85 Avanti

I replaced a tie rod end, I'm not sure what the best toe setting is for my 85 Avanti. The car is a Touring Coupe with Western Wheels and 60 series BFG radials. I have set it at 1/8 toed in with the with the tires on turntables using a tape and my old racing toe set bars. Lou Cote

That'll work. A lot of guys recommend straight ahead with radial tires, but I think I like just a wee bit of toe in.

Try 1/32" toe-in on each wheel for radials.

You have to consider when the car gets moving and road force moving forward will splay the wheels, taking up wear in the other linkage joints. 0-3/16" is fine.

I have tried with toe-in and with neutral. Definitely put some toe-in on the car or it will try to steer itself up every wear groove along most older hiways you drive down. A very nasty sensation when you are on a two way road with on coming traffic... In any of the northern states or Canadian provinces that allow studded tires the grooves and the wandering gets worse.
