    Question 1953 2R10 Truck on Ebay - Can Someone Check It For Me?

    I am considering placing a bid on this truck and am wondering if there are any Forum members nearby in Phoenix who can check it out for me before I do. Here is a link to the listing:

    Hi, Ed,

    Wouldn't the 2R10 nomenclature indicate a Champion-powered 122" 3/4t with six-lug two-piece wheels? The photos look more like a 2R5; no big deal if that's what one wants.

    It's an 2R5 not a 2R10. There have been a Whole Lot of Studes. with that "R10" at the end of the title lately on eBay, NOT just Trucks.
    Apparently ALL Studes. are 2R10's! It makes 'em more valuable like a "TT"!

    Affirmative on all the above. It is a 1/2 ton which is what I want. I will swap out the wheels for standard 16" which I have already. I am a little concerned about the sellers feedback rating which is one of the reasons I would like someone to put eyes on this thing to make sure it is what the seller says it is. I have sent him a series of questions I need answers to in addition to getting it inspected.
    Hopefully someone in the Phoenix area is available to look at it. If not I may just have to pass. I have a very nice Champ so I am not desperate for this truck. I just happen to like and want a "C" cab.

    It has been sometime since I listed a Studebaker on Ebay. Have they added a drop down menu for models? If so I have seen also the 2R10 listed on several cars, probably by people that do not know Studebakers. I have not responded to any that have listed their ad that way. Not worth the effort as most guys that think they can make money of the car could care less about accuracy.

    Just a few things I notice at a first glance, since you're considering it as a purchase;

    It looks like it was given a quickie paint job and interior redo.. And little to no effort spent anywhere else. Note the paint on the windshield rubber where it was masked off, painted gas filler grommet, dents and dings that were there before the paint job, cracking body filler on the tailgate, etc.

    A 170 6 with a 4 speed is good for puttering around the yard, but forget about it if you want to drive it on the highway. It'd be a 45-50 MPH truck and screaming at that.

    Nice C-Cab pickups on the open market are scarce and really good ones sell in the $15K+ range. There's probably a reason why this one has only been bid to $3K with less than 2 days left on the auction.

    BTW, Bob Miles, you're correct about ebay. The last time I listed a Stude on there, there was a mandatory drop down menu for trim/model. If you didn't select one, 2R10 is the default since it's the first on the list alphabetically.

    Ditto on all the above. I note in particular mnstude. The dash is tacky and the engine compartment is unfinished. I would stay away from it. I once saw a 52 convertible for sale but it had been given a fast paint job with lots of putty. I would rather have bought the car without the cosmetic work because then I'd at least know the real condition of the car.

    It has the radio mounting kit for the 53-55 car radio.

    Not to hijack, but is there a tutorial somewhere that explains the truck models and nomenclature? As familiar as I am with the cars, there is almost zero knowledge in my tiny brain about trucks. It would be good to know what engine is in a truck just from hearing the model number. Where can one go to get schooled on this?

    Holy Moly! I think I like M, R and E Better! It's Great to be accurate, but THAT is intense.

    That is mostly JUST "C" Cabs, THEN you have the 5E: 1960, 6E: 1961, 7E: 1962 Champ "T" Cabs!

    The truck model table in post #15, while perhaps including some rarely-seen models, covers both C and T cabs. The 1/2 and 3/4-ton Champ trucks used the same model numbers as their C-cab predecessors.

    There was never a time when all the model numbers were in use at the same time, and the list also includes a number of one-year-only models. To keep it simple, just use Jack's post with Guido's correction.
