  • Wheels / Tires: Packard rims on a Studebaker?

I am switching to radial tires on my 48 Land Cruiser. I heard Packard rims will fit and keep the hub caps on. Is this true? If so, which rims should I look for. My bolt pattern is 5 on 5.

All postwar Detroit Packards except the 54-56 Clippers have the 5 on 5 wheels. They come in 5 1/2 and 6" widths. Generally speaking if the car has a 122" wheelbase it will have the 5 1/2' width; 127" wheelbase cars and 53-54 convertibles will have 6" You will not be able to mount your '48 hubcaps on either of them them, only the later full wheelcovers that Stude introduced in 1950.

I used a handy set of Packard wheels on my 50 Commander while I was painting the original wheels. The original wheels are quite heavy built and I really don't think you will have trouble with radials on them unless running the Paris-Dakar rally. My 50 is a pleasure to drive with its radials.
