Paint for wheel rims on 62 GT Hawk

I have my white walls on the wheels and have the hub caps looking great with the vinyl attachments purchased from SI. After looking at some pictures I have decided that I want the wheel area just outside the edge of the hubcaps to be red instead of black. This would be about 7/8 of an inch wide. I certainly do not want to get red paint on the new whitewalls. I know that I could take the wheels/tires back to the tire shop and have the tires taken off etc. Or, I might take a small brush and carefully brush red paint on that part of the wheels. From experience I know that I would most likely end up getting red paint on the whitewalls! Is there anything similar to a dry marker only with paint out there?
Or, does anyone have any other suggestions for me.

I believe that Body Shops have cardboard Circular "Masks' that you can lay on the tire in 14, 15, 16 Inch that maybe you could buy.

Remove the wheel from the car. Let the air out of the tire. Unfold a 12 pack soda can box, or a few of them and cut a semi circle from one side and disgard it. Slide the remainder of the cardboard, arc side tward wheel, between the wheel and tire. Three or four pieces will completely cover the tire. The spray paint the wheel.
Not painting the wheel here, but you get the idea.

I repainted my 6-1/2" wide black rims that I got from a used Ford Crown Victoria -- after the tires had been mounted. I didn't release any air from the tires. The color I used was the original off-white, cream-colored paint described here in other posts. I cut a large circle out of a newspaper approximately the size of the rim and then carefully stuck short strips of blue painters masking tape all around the circle edge over the whitewall and the newspaper and under the edge of the rim. It was a tedious job but I didn't get any of the paint on the whitewalls.

Don't remember just where I saw this, but I use it and it works great. You probably have an old deck of cards or can get some (casinos will sometimes give you a used deck). Don't have to dismount the tire, but probably should. Will have to let the air out though to get the cards to stick well.

That card trick looks like a good idea. The last wheels I painted with tires mounted, I used masking tape between the tire and wheel, but it was tedious.

When I paint my wheels, Prep the wheels, then mount the tire, but do not inflate it. Mask off the tire, then when you paint, you can get the lip on the inside of the wheel with paint. Let dry, inflate and balance. Wheels look great. yes, it takes some time, tape and paper, but you get what you put into it.
I learned this from a guy in LA, that restored old Buicks. I "thought" he was nuts until hr showed mre a wheel that he had painted. That is the only way I do them now.
