If the difference makes no difference, is there a difference?

Dale...you've done it again...teased my brain and provoked a journey to deeper thought. "What's the difference????" Well...it certainly depends on approach/attitude, does it not? For example, if you are in a position where you are supposed to SERVE others, and instead, treat them as if YOU are the one to be served, THERE'S THE DIFFERENCE. Using the phrase "what's the difference," in a condescending (dismissive) manner indicates distaste toward a serious inquisitor.

Therefore...in recent history, a person who was in a public service position, and treating it as an "entitlement," was being questioned about their actions in a serious matter. It was quite obvious that the person's attitude was that those inquiring were not deserving of learning "the difference" (answers).

Finally, very frustrated with the persistence of serious questions, the so-called "public servant" in a very animated condescending dismissive manner blurted out "WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?" To that person, the attitude was that the difference makes no difference, and thus...should make no difference.

However, there was a difference. The attitude of much of the public was NOT dismissive. To them, a serious matter. So THERE is the DIFFERENCE. It was a difference of perspective and assigned importance. So much so, that that public servant's efforts to continue serving was "DISMISSED!"

Therefore...in the spirit of the title of this thread, the public TOOK NOTE!
