    Faye Ward

Tragically, long time SDC and Ontario Chapter member Faye Ward, was killed in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday afternoon June 21st 2017 in Haldimand which is near Hamilton.

Faye and her husband Mark have been SDC members for over 4 decades and Faye sang in the Studebaker Choir in recent international meets. She was a leader, organizer, Jesus-follower, singer, walker, caregiver, gardener, mentor, hugger, and surrogate sister & auntie to many. She will be sadly missed by Mark, two daughters, and three grandchildren, as well as all her Studebaker friends.

Visitation is today from 2 to 5 with celebration of her rich, faith-driven life tomorrow June 26th at 2 pm, both at Harmony Baptist Church, 1763 Upper James Street, Glanbrook, Ontario. Rest in peace Faye.

Thelma and I just returned home from participating in a Celebration of Life for Faye Ward. It was also attended by Ontario Chapter president Will Norton, Hamilton Chapter president Roly Lusted and his wife Susan, and Hamilton Chapter member Larry Gibson. I can't remember the last time we ever attended such a fitting tribute to anyone.

As described in her obituary, Faye was a lot of things to a lot of people, and quite a number of them shared their experiences with her. She was a friend, mentor, and most of all a leader and organizer. And Faye mostly had the last word. In that regard I thought her Studebaker friends who knew her, but couldn't attend today's tribute, would appreciate the following bit of humor from her pastor.

Mark's mother passed away just two weeks ago and Faye was interred beside her mother-in-law this morning, prior to this afternoon's tribute. A short distance away from the Ward plot another burial was taking place and that family had a Scottish piper playing the bagpipes. Almost on cue, the piper stopped piping right when Faye's pastor paused for a moment of silence. Again on cue, the sound of the pipes rang out again when silence ended. Faye was born in Scotland and never forgot her heritage, which led the pastor to wonder if Faye was just getting in the last word, or was just taking advantage of not having to pay for the piper.

Bob Suszek the Ontario Chapter VP also attended Faye's Celebration of Life along with Walter & Peggy Cracknell and Russ & Dot Carnes at yesterday's visitation. She was extremely well-known & liked which was quite evident by the hundreds of persons that attended. She will be greatly missed but not forgotten. Faye was a highly respected English Teacher and her church is building a Memorial Outdoor Classroom in her honour. A very fitting tribute to a great lady.
