  • Lumpy's Lark build

Not quite sure if this is the right place... but figured I would do a build thread.

    Picture 2
The 327 I had from my race car years ago.

Cool...me like! A few years back there was a guy producing Cal-Trac style bars for Studebakers until Cal-Trac contacted him and told him he had to stop production. Somewhere on this forum there is a thread on the topic. Anyways, your bars look sweet. What trans will you be using, and how high-strung is the sbc? intake, rocker stud girdle and deep pan indicate some hp indeed. cheers, junior

Here are some shots of the cold air intake system and the header collectors, I had to turn the collectors inward in front of the bat wing and then route the exhaust through the factory cut outs in the bat wing for ground clearance. Exhaust was all done with 3" tubing, man it was a tight fit!

Here is some engine stuff. The engine is a 68 Chevy LG journal 327. Has forged crank, forged 11.1 pistons Edelbrock heads I am running the Chevy off road #1 mechanical cam the same one that was dealer installed in the 69 Z28's. You can see I was able to fit the scatter shield without cutting the bat wing because I mounted the engine at 3 degrees instead of the broke back angle. This required modifications to the drive shaft tunnel but I think it worked out much better this way.

Here are some shots of the front end with the springs that were in the car when I got it. It sat way too high After some bone yard scrounging I came up with some 90 GM B body rear springs that worked perfectly. The picture of the front facia that I attempted to match the patina as the previous owner had sanded all the paint off of it The last picture is the fuel tank. Which I had to search high and low for as the original was wasted. You will see I added a fuel sump to the back and the fuel lines are all 1/2" with a Holly pump. That is it for now it is the end of my break!

Hey Junior the engine is actually detuned a little from its racing days, it used to have a Sig Erson sb990 cam and iron sportsman heads . It now has ported edelbrock performer heads milled down to 68cc , for 10.8 to 1 ratio. cam is chevy 7140 mechanical grind and i'm running a holley 800 dbl pumper. trans is a rebuilt m20 muncie wide ratio. Very happy with performance so far

The first shot is the inspiration for the build. From a 1960 hot rod article where a guy took a new Lark and stuffed a Hemi in it.
I saw this as a young boy and stuck with me ever since. Her are some finished shots of the car with the all important grill emblem.
