If a V8 and a heavy pedal, I'd think of a later Champ truck set up with self adjusters.....Might even get away with fronts only. Who wears out rear brakes in an old truck today ? If you want to dig deeper into your pocket, go a disc conversion. The bucks spent (if on a budget), will potentially postpone other system fixes.... but your truck/your cabbage... I've always thought if you're swapping in new systems for brakes, you might as well Fatman or other front clip, new springs etc. Now you balance the "new" truck feel....

I own a '61 Champ and there is nothing wrong with the brakes it came with. They work fine, parts are available. I replaced the old cam adjusters and the new ones stay tight. If you have someone else do a brake job just remember to tell them that the shoes go on in the reverse of other vehicles. If they get put on in what looks normal to most brake professionals they won't work well at all. So, put the shoes on backwards. These brakes need to be adjusted regularly and any good brake shop will know how to adjust brakes with cam adjusters. My local tire store does mine for me and they have never charged me a dime.Ed Sallia

the early champ brakes are 1948 technology. Not self energizing. They are very poor brakes on a good day. IMHO the options are the following.
1. redo your brakes stock, all parts are available but as I stated your stuck with inferior brakes.
2. not certain what year they went with better brakes (self energizing) on the champ I think it was 63. so secure all the necessary parts from 63, or 64 champ truck.
3. put the later champ brakes on rear and go with turner disc on front. This would be my choice. Not sure if stock wheels will fit the disc conversion. On a car you must replace the wheels in order for the wheel to clear the caliper.

You pipe the booster into the brake line, bleed it etc and it runs off vacuum from the inlet manifold. Essentially the booster increases pressure in the brake system but not on your pedal. Basically you get more brake pressure for the same amount of pedal pressure you would use if it was non boosted.
